I was looking in my backyard which has a slow moving stream though it and i caught these fish in a net, which I want to feed to my oscar. oh and I dont think they are mosquito fish. thanks

nar there like 1-2 inches long/travel in groups and i live in brisbane, maby a minnow

Looks like a rainbow fish to me. They are native ;) you would be better off feeding them something else if you can these fish struggle as it is in local waterways to compete with exotic live breeders. It's fun to watch oscars eat live food but you will find it hard to get them to eat pellets again if you plan to feed them live food all the time not to mention parasites etc etc... Pellets are a better balanced diet for your fish I would suggest live food as a treat every now and then,small shrimps,crays and feeders from your local store. HTH Roger

I was thinking it wasn't a spanglie as well and agree too about not using them as live food. Why don't you set up another tank and get some cheap guppies they breed like flies !!! my 2 cents worth Pat.

It does look like a rainbow fish. Something I would not be feeding your Oscar.

It is a female Duboulays Rainbowfish Melanotaenia duboulayi.
