well i would put this in the rod and reel sections but it just seems right to put it here with the fly guys.
has anyone fished with any of the rod and fly gear from troutflies.com i just got one of there 7/9 large arbour reels and it is one of the smoothest bits of fly gear i have felt and for a considerably cheaper price. i am thinking of getting one of there discovery 5/6 reels with one of there 8'9'' 5/6wt rods and then from another place getting a rio grande or sa sharkskin gpx or just a normal gpx to use in fresh and esturine. maybe salt.
what line would you get in a 6wt floating for these conditions???
cheers mitch
also i just bought a heap of fly tying gear from the inspiration i got from bear and 4weightfanatics flys so thanks guys.
Check out the Colton fly reels as well. Just bought 3 myself for bream and other smaller gear. Lines, I use Rio Lake line for floating and trying out the Airflo Sixth Sense as a good sink\intermediate.

G'Day Mitch the only experience I have had with the gear you mention is the SA GPX line. I have been using a #4 weight floating GPX in willow colour which is a sort of off white for nearly six years now. I've been using it in both estuary and fresh water situations mainly for mullet, bream and garfish and are pretty happy with it. I have even cast #4 gurglers in really windy conditions (mainly tail wind) at Currimundi lake and was surprised how well it performed when I got my timing right. However I have noticed that it has developed fine cracks across the line coating despite thoroughly washing in fresh water after each use and application of SA line dressing approx. every 3-4 th outing. I wonder whether the salt enviroment has affected it as it appears to be designed for fresh water - Michael aka Kamikazeghost may be able to shed some light on that issue. Have you ever looked at midcurrent .com website ? Arguably one of the best fly fishing resource website about - heaps of info by all the big names in both fresh and saltwater fly fishing. Glad I inspired you to tie some more flies I love the marabou as long as you get the amount right I combine this alot on my bass flies with black squirrel tail. If you haven't used squirrel have a look at it as it has a stiff butt but wispy tips which I find doesn't tail wrap as much as bucktail Cheers Pat

for the reel on a 5/6 u probs wont be using it alot so thats not a big issue but if i were to buy a 5/6 ide look at the lamson konic and with the rod try get the best you can as alot of cheap rods are very soft and doughy to cast

Fan of the shimano biocrafts myself and use them on my 6wt and 9wt velocitys. Got a scientific anglers headstart 6wt floating line and if your new to fly fishing, i thoroughly recommend it. Very easy to load up and cast a long way with. And found it good for tight streams in tassie where you only have maybe three or four metres of flyline out of the tip plus a 10ft leader and just roll cast everwhere. I dont see why it wouldnt do well in saltwater as well. I think it was only about $40 as well so its very well priced. If you up line it one size above your rod, I really think you will launch bream flies as good or better than other lines and it will be forgiving of any initial casting flaws (of which I still have plenty)
For saltwater breaming and inshore stuff down in busso, Im going to try one of the new SA textured series floating lines for it and probably one of the airflo sixth sense sinking/intermediate lines for it as well. Will keep the headstart for freshwater use but as I said, would more than likely make a real good salt line as well.
