Anyone had any experiences with the new F70 yammy? Good or bad?

G'day mate I have just purchased one and still breaking it in. It has great mid range power and is super quite compared to my brothers new merc 60 4 stroke. The power delivery is really nice and smooth but yet punche. Been great so fair for me.

Cheers

Tracker has been sold mate, im actually downsizing in length and upsizing in freeboard :D

Toying with the idea of one of these or a 75 etec on the hull im looking at. Was stoked with the 90 etec on the tracker but the yammy has been the first 4 stroke I have seen that actually interests me.

Im thinking of the exact same motor to up the horses on mine. Was just waiting for a bit to see the reviews and peoples thoughts.

Definately the motor I would be looking at. Way lighter than the rest of the competition. They are using 16v but SOHC. Quiet as and really economical. If I were to repower my tracker it would be one of these. Not a lot of info on it though. As people have said they are dead quiet. The most I've seen of them is on youtube.

Take a look at this click on the view complete article button http://www.seamedia.com.au/sea_library/engines_drives.php

Link doesnt work Justin...

Yeah im wanting to hear a bit more of how they are performing and would be good to see how they go longevity wise. From what I can see its a tweaked 60, but revving to 6300rpm has me concerned a little for a 4 stroke. Thought that was the sort of revs that a racing outboard pulls.....

No regrets putting the etec on the tracker, the only thing that would make it faster would be a standard merc 2 stroke, but the etec was reliable everytime and sounded awesome when trimmed out. The roar the two strokes make at WOT is so addictive.

Try that and scroll down to find it.

I wouldn't be too worried about the revs. Its only 1000cc so internals should be light. My merc 40hp is a 3 cylinder 750cc and it does 6000. Same cylinder size and the 4 cylinders are way more balanced and a lot smoother.

To the guys that are running them, can you tell me if they can be connected by nmea2000 link to a compatible sounder eg a lowrance hds?

I wouldn't worry too much about the 6300 rpm's that the motor will do too much.

1 litre motorbike engines are expected to pull up to 10,000rpm and more on standard street bikes and are generally expected to last longer than (or at least as long as) outboards. I don't think doing 6300rpm, over the standard 5500 to 5800, is going to make much difference to the longevity of the motor.

They look like a good donk to me and I would loved to have put one on my boat.... If only I could afford one:(

Thing is lethal is that motor bike motors wont sustain maximum revs/hp for hours on end like an outboard.

I read somewhere that the 70hp motor had lighter rods and pistons than the 60hp and I suspect the forces on the crankshaft at max RPM would be the same as the 60hp at its max of 6000rpm.

Never said they had to but they'd sit on 6500 rpm all day long though.

Just saying that I wouldn't worry about a 1 litre four stroke engine pulling 6300rpm for sustained periods of time.

So long as it makes the run from tantabiddi to pilgs and from learmonth to the "spit" im happy ;)

I know the etec would run the boat a fair bit quicker, I guess the choice will get made closer to when the boat is ready.
