Here's a pretty good headshot on a lumix DMC-FT2, one of the waterproof/shockproof ones. Not bad cameras at all.

Go Canon.
Mine is a $89 Job and for the price, can't beat the quality.
Although I did lose my first one when it fell in a half inch of water.:o
I know Canon do make some waterproof camera's, might be worth to have a look at. ;)

I don't know stuff about cameras but how about Olympus U830 all weatherproof (XD card). Also great for beach, snow, behind glass and you can get an underwater housing for it. May no longer be available in Oz. If I recall it cost less than $300 though as I bought it overseas.
Whatever you get you should defiinitely consider weatherproof ones as you're a yakker (as stated on profile).

another vote for the lumix. As mentioned, waterproof, shock proof, takes great shots, easy to use and operate, films in HD, takes great macro shots, has a macro zoom function as well which actually works.
Some pics ive taken with it

i change the settings according to the situation mate. Cant remember what was what when I took the pic of the ray. Just mess around with the iso levels until you gain confidence knowing what level to use when. Otherwise I just chucked it on macro and shot

There's a macro setting? I go on auto and just try focus on the right zone. Shows how much I know about my ft2 LOL

I have a FT2 aswell, great little camera, although i still manage to take crap shots with it, if you remember where the macro setting is, let us know. That pic of the ray is amazing.

The ft2's are well worth the money, awesome fishing camera. They've discontinued them to introduce the ft3's which are more exspensive again.

The DMCFT2 is an old models now and could be difficult to get. The new replacement is the DMCFT3 and retails for $599.

I just got a Lumix FT2 today at Bing Lee today for $389 including a case and 4gig memory card - a pretty good deal I think.
The sales assistant said they were reducing down the FT2's as they were releasing a new model soon; at around $599 apparently the new model has a reduced pixel count, but improved video capabilities.
I've only found the macro mode in the auto shoot function - can I access it in any other mode (I've tried holding the button down, but it does nothing:confused:)
