Hi All

Can anyone help with info on Bream please?

I would like to get some info on:

Bream groath rates.
Distribution.
Are they territorial?
Have any studies been done on taging?
How far do they actually travell?

Appart from obvious weather conditions, how are bream affected
by the weather?Barometer/Water temp/Rain.

Do they realy see colours?

Do they have memories?
How soon after catching a brean on a lure and releasing it can someone catch it again?
Does the same Bream get educated about lures?
Who tells them Squidgies are a new hot bait?
Or do they just get sick of the same old lures and bite something new for the hek of it?

Lots of questions need answers.

Geez, lots of questions there. You will probably get lots of different answers for most of them. Here's a few of mine.

Are they territorial? Yes. That's why hardbody fishing in snags works so well

Have any studies been done on taging? Probably. Get in touch with your local ANSA group.

How far do they actually travel? Depends on species. Black bream apparently travel less than yellow finned bream. Tagging studies should give you this info.

Appart from obvious weather conditions, how are bream affected
by the weather?Barometer/Water temp/Rain. Ask 10 people this one and you will get 10 different answers. Most people on here will agree that you can catch them in all conditions, you just need to vary your technique until you find something that works. General theory is that low or falling barometer equals lethargic, hard to catch fish.

Distribution - check out http://www.fisheries.nsw.gov.au/rec/sw/estuary_fishing.htm for your state.

Growth rates. - Slow. The only details I've seen on this are in the charts below. These are for black bream in WA. The charts are a bit hard to read, but you can just make out the numbers.
