What happened to the thread on the top 10 lures? Did I miss something controversial - i thought it was an interesting one and there didn't seem to be any fighting that would have seen it pulled? update... apparently I did miss some fighting at the end of the thread.

A top ten in order from 1 to 10 based on opinions was probably not not the way to go. But the feedback did prove 2 things.
1. What works for you might not work for me.
2. What works in WA or Tassie, etc, might not work up here in Ballina, NSW.

Plus it also means another trip to the tackle store to give some of the other lures on the list I haven't tried a go !

Ahhh ... that poll! Yes, I can imagine how the fighting started.;). Not sure if we get in trouble for this, but I think the point I made in the thread is valid - -its simply a list of opinions and shouldn't be taken too seriously as people don't use all the lures out there (ie can only list what they know) and conditions, fish and skill all vary between the people who took part. That said, will be interesting to have a look at the mag and see what they say.

Can't understand why people get precious about these discussions  I mean, you don't get that fighting happening when people discuss rod preferences (maybe because Megabass is best?:p .. ok just kidding) or reels. You don't get Loomis vs Millerods vs Daiwa vs JDM discussions getting closed or Sh!tmano vs DAIWA (there I go again..:p) reps/ sponsored/ fans going all precious... so why the lures? Surely the pond is big enough for all the lures (and more) to swim in...

As were my points valid and as Kevin called me and apologised and said he may have got it wrong and he would post this on his blog "still waiting Kevin" I rest my case.;)

I didn't even respond to that post today so nothing to do with me it's the readers that have questioned it for good reason.

CHUNQX although we did get equal ranking at No 10 my concern is that this article will sell lures and companies that didn't get a look in and probably sell more lures than I do miss out.

Great Magazine but not a great article IMO

As a moderator I can say that I have not deleted it, so may have been one of the other moderators, I would imagine it was not the theme of the thread it may have just been hi jacked, sometimes it is far easier to delete a thread than to go through the thread and remove the inappropriate comments.

Hey fellas,

I only just saw this post so i thought it best to reply.

I was made to give Hyper Tackle (HT) a call by my editor who recieved a call from Mark (your name i believe) to voice his disapproval of my findings in the poll. I heard what HT had to say and apologised if my results did not reflect what he was saying - that Zipbaits should have been mentioned in the 'most lures polled by manufacturer' list in part 1 of the article.

At the time of submitting the article, which has a lead time of 3 months, i might add, my data was correct. What i was willing to to do was mention that data may have changed post submission and Zipbaits may have made the list. I have tried to dig up the thread to see if this is the case before i put my name to it, but have not had the opportunity to cross reference what HT has claimed. Online forums was only one medium i used to poll 220 people.

While some of you might not have liked the content of the article, it was extremely well recieved by readers and was trying to give a new slant on already well worn subjects, a trap a lot of fishing writers seem to fall into. The challenge is, and always will be, writing new and informative stuff on topics we have read a million times. I guess, in the end, that's all i was trying to achieve.

Cheers boys.

As you asked the question on the 16/09/2010 and the last member to give their results was on the 30/09/2010 if you count within that time frame and members polled on this forum you will find you got it wrong, nice excuse but I'm afraid the dates and numbers just don't quite add up as you are saying I'm afraid, Great Magazine but your article is wrong based on results on this forum.

as some one who is getting back into breaming on lures again, im very intersted in reading about what is working and how the product performs.

After reading to artical which is sitting right in front of me now, i didnt run out and buy a bunch of wrigglers.

I made some notes after reading and i looked at what other people i fish with where using.

The comments that are going back and forth on this thread are what is sticking in my mind though, and prehaps making me select products based on principles rather than how they perform. :(

ZipBaits models mentioned from the 16/09/2011 to 27/09/2011

Khamsin Tiny SR & DR
Khamsin Jr SR & DR
Rigge 56F & Rigge 56F Deep
Rigge 46SP-MDR
Rigge 35F & Rigge 35F Deep
Hickory SR
ZBL Popper
Skinny Pop Jr

Most of these were voted for on the first day the poll was open on the 17/09/2011 as models such as Rigge were both Deep and Shallow models were mentioned specifically then these would count as 2 models so by my count it's 12 seperate ZipBaits models??? please correct me if I'm wrong?

Currently based on responses the Cranka Crank and Vibe should be the top 2 HB lures.

Realistically the stats should be coming from tackle stores not polls.

You know things are petty good in Oz when this sort of topic creates so much controversy.

Was this poll and data actually tested via a statistical test, or was it simply polled (3 votes for this, 2 votes for that..).

Doesn't seem to hold much statastical value unfortuantly, interesting though - wasnt many suprises tho!

Well if you had of explained yourself like this in the first place i could have proved you wrong earlier. In case you are poor at reading, as this was stated in the article, i will enlighten you again Mark.

If a lure was voted for whether it be a Rigge 46 or a Rigge 56, it was counted as 2 votes for the Rigge range, therefore its only 1 type of lure...NOT 2. Ecogear SX would have been ranked No.1 if i separated out the SX40 & SX48, however they were the rules i set out at the beginning and i stuck with them.

Just so everyone can be reminded - especially you Mark - This was NOT a poll on the most effective, deadly or potent lure. This was a deceptive approach I took to uncover the FAVOURITE lure bream fishos like. I wanted to find out perceptions rather than reality. That's why frankly i couldnt be stuffed with more in depth analysis. To be honest i couldnt care less what people think is the best lure. I have been around long enough to know NOBODY IS RIGHT. It's all opinion. I was more interested to see if there was concrete evidence to suggest those with the biggest advertising budgets have the most influence. I think the Top 10 showed that.

Forums were only 1 place i polled. And to be honest, if this site didn't rank Zipbaits highly, they wouldn't have rated a mention at all. Frankly, you can put them in the same class any any other generic Jap lure manufacturer competing for the high-end (low value) bream lure market. In my opinion Asakura Lures (Japanese) which are new to Oz and sold at half the price are twice as deadly while still running Owner components.

Thanks for explaining yourself Mark and how you came up with your 12 different lures. This has just made you sound more like a goose. Next time, read the fine print properly before you speak out!

I'm glad i didn't apologise in print when i was right all along.
