Hey Guys,

Went to Mulwala for the first time last weekend with my 'ol man and although the water clarity was average we thought we'd give it our best shot at some Murray Cod. Now, let me tell you something about my 'ol man. He is an old-school bait-o fisherman and is a sort of 'kill'it and fillet' fisherman. So i decided and agreed with him that i'd take him on his first lure fishing only trip. Catch and release only (was a hard ideal for him to swallow at first)! lol On the first evening my 'ol man landed a nice cod on a black/white spinnerbait. He was stoked to say the least. His first ever Murray Cod and on a lure too! I figure when fishing new territory its always wise to go out with a local and get as much knowledge about the area as possible. So on the second day we took a trip out with Luke from 'Gone Yonder Fishing Charters'. Let me tell you, Luke operates a fantastic service and his prices are very reasonable. If you are ever in the area, call Luke at Gone Yonder and he'll put you onto the fish!
Starting off in the morning with surface lures we missed some solid surface hits. the fish were bumping the lures but not engulfing them :( so as the sun started to rise we resorted back to the spinners and divers. White with silver blades was the most successful combination. Over the day we landed a total of 8 fish. Which Luke said was fantastic considering the water quality in the lake of late. The 'ol man outfished me 6:2 and i was shattered! Beat me at my own game! haha! I put it down to beginners luck. :D I'm kinda glad it was that way as i think I may have him hooked on fishing with artificials. He keeps telling everyone how fantastic it was this, "Action Fishing". A few pics of the many below. Enjoy and thanks for reading!

Cheers mate. It was something i thought i'd never get through to him! :D
Yeah the Cod are an interesting fish to fight mate. They hit harder than most fish out there. The initial strike takes you by surprise lol. They strike and instantly turn to go back under their snag. So the big part is to make sure you get them away quick. But if you successfully do that, most specimens do tend to give up a bit and are happy to be dragged to the boat :p Saying that it depends on the fish i guess. Some fish will fight all the way back to the boat.

converting the older generation off baits to lures , and from the old kill n fill is proving a hard task for me ha ha
