I had some bad line twist in fireline the first time I used it. ( I think i got it while winding in line that wasn't under tension due to tides and winds. I ended up cutting off several metres.

A method i have heard of is to troll the entire length of line behind a boat and wind it back on.

Good Luck with it as it is expensive.

Hey guys,
It must be pretty bad if your noticing it much, coz i've heard that its not a problem with fireline because it has no memory!
Can someone set me straight if i'm wrong, coz i dont want to loose any of my line either!

I rarely have twist problems....

Fireline needs to be packed tightly onto the spool - any loose bits and you'll throw loops, causing all sorts of grief.

Trolling the whole lot behind the boat works well and Fireline doesn't have much of a memory, but that won't stop twist;)

A big point to remember is not to wind the handle while line is coming off the spool under drag ie. when you're fighting a fish or snagged - depending on your reel you could be putting up to 6 twists in it for every handle turn:eek:

Hope this helps

I must not have packed my spool tight enough...

I usually troll the line (nothing on the end) about once a week (I fish almost every day), you will be surprised at the resistance the line will have just by itself and this is enough tension to pack it on nicely.

I have also found that, if I fill the spool right out to the edge like you would with mono, you will discover the grief that DaveW mentioned, so I always just make sure that the fireline has to jump over the lip of the spool, this way it virtually stops multiple loops coming off.
