A mate in the tackle trade has done some fairly extensive testing of virtually all the well known brands of braid and gelspun and come up with some interesting results. He tested breaking strain on a testing jig and found that all lines broke above the stated breaking strain.
However, he also tested knot strength using a well known book of knots for braid and tyinging several of each knot to get an average. he found that the all he could get for most lines and knots was 50% of breaking strain. The best result for all lines was a variation on a plait with 3 turns through the eye of the hook, which got 65% of BS.
