Is there anyone out there using the Lommis dropshot spin stick?
If so what do you think of them.

If it's the one I am thinking of it would be made to GL4 specs be about 7"long, nice action with a lot of balls. I am saving up for one and I plan to match it with a Stellar 1000 or 2000.
I saw one in campbells in Leederville, and was very impressed.
Your a lucky man Steve

Mate that's the sore point, the one I saw was $500 bucks, but some of the lads I spoke to last night at our W.A. get togethor told me that it has been reduced to around $300.
I reckon a Loomis is worth every cent though pity I don't have more money than brains.

Have you compared these rods with the Strudwick collection, Geoff? I haven't and would really like some comparisons from people who would know the difference.

I havn't been in to a shop but the guys who I have had as non boaters had them.
I do rate strud's I think they are a damn fine aussie(i think?) product but I am a die hard Loomis man. I think Loomis's tend to be more ridgid, a factor which I look for in a stick.
Some guys like Bear like em like noodles however, and also very whippy, I like mine to bend only on the down stroke of a cast and stop bending once I let go of the line. From memory the strud was good but not as ridgid as my loomis.

Hi Guys,
I understand the Drop shots RRP is upward to $590 so your heavily discounted deal is truly amazing. We were the G. Loomis rodbuilders for Australia up until Jan 2003 but we never built the drop shots as these came in after we finished up with Loomis. (New rules from USA--all rods are now fully imported.) We now build our own brand Black Diamond Tailored Rods on other top quality blanks from USA. We have a rod similar to the drop shot called the Bream Reaper that has a RRP of $385. Steve Correia of DohDohDoh uses one so for those in the WA area, you could give him a call. For those over in NSW and Qld., email me at bdrods@fishingworks.com and I can give you more details of where to see them. Matt Fraser is one of our pro tournament guys and he uses the Bream Reaper. I am sure if you email him, he could tell you what he thinks of the rod, too. I only mention this (hope this is okay Warren) to give fisherfolk more options.
Cheers,
Cindy Ross

Thanks for the feedback.

I had a brief fish with the Dropshot at Shelly bridge yesterday.

I couldn't be absolutely sure but I think it casts further than my GL2 6 footer, one thing came to light, The butt was to long, Fixed that yesterday with a fine toothed saw and will be fishing up steam today to try it out. Took a little time to adjust to the timing/accuracy, though once I got used to it I was punching lures under the bridge with a lot less effort than my GL2.

In the week before I purchased the DS I visited Bluewater Morley,Campbell's and AA at C/Vale, and tried all the rods on offer, for various reasons I rejected them (weight, action, fittings, grip). the Struds are nice rods and almost a $100 bucks cheaper but I like Loomis.

I also had a quote to build a custom Bream rod with the best of everything but my impatience wouldn't let me wait and I bought what I think is the best off the shelf rod I tried(Remember this is my opinion, so don't get your knickers in a twist if you think differently)

I've heard of people using different rods for hard and soft luring, I tried both yesterday and didn't notice any difference, It was a pleasure to fish the DS.

The DS isn't cheap and my second pick would be a GL3 6ft for around $300.

They are a very sexy beast indeed but I have yet to fish with one (in the water). It'd be a great land based rod but I still prefer 6' rods for the yacht clubs and snags no matter what people say about the advantages of longer rods...

The Dropshot is only 6'10" as they come from the factory, after shortening the butt the rod is now 6'7" and handles very nicely.

There is another rod with your name on it.
