Just wondering what does everyone use for storing their squid jigs. Does it matter if soft or hard case? I used to store mine in the original boxes but it's getting quite messy. Saw the Emeraldas case at CA which looks ok but don't know if it's any good for its price.

Hey mate,
I use one of the yamaDohDohDohDoha cases. Mines got around 20 jigs atm and it can hold more. They are pretty pricey for what they are, i think theyre like 35 in tackle stores. My cousin used the emeraldas one and he reckoned it bent the prongs on the jigs. Ive also got one of the clear ones from compleat, anglertec or something i think they are made by. Its ok, but a bit bulkier and only holds 12 jigs.

I recommend the yama cases if youre willing to spend around 30 bucks. The cases are a good way to organise your jigs though, much tidier. Even one of the CA cheapies like ive got is ok and theyre not much more than $10

Hmm fair enough... I've only seen the Emeraldas in CA or DohDohDoh, good thing I didn't buy it...

The Bum bag looks ok too. Might have to get it online then....

Cheers guys!:D

We've got the Daiwa Emeraldas EGi Case (http://www.mylureshop.com/p/1185371/daiwa-emeraldas-egi-case.html) and the Yamash ita Eging Stocker (http://www.mylureshop.com/p/1185347/yamaDohDohDohDoha-eging-stocker.html). Like the look of the Berkley bags :)

+1 for the bent points on the jigs, with the daiwa cases.

find the shaimano sephia cases with the interlocking teeth style plastic triangle sleeves by far the best cases. store around 10 jigs per cases. they also work well for storing largish metal slices and hard bodies.

Yea bought the Shimano case from CA. Looks good but only fits 10 jigs. Hopefully the triangle-plastic holder doesn't crack.

i've got the sephia bag, holds 30 jigs. awesome little bag for the days i can't be arsed with a pack.

not bad for carrying the planos for HBs around when wading either.

I have one breaden mini case which holds about 10 jigs, have this one clipped to my belt, also use Gold feeling, evergreen and emeraldas cases. I prefer the gold feeling ones as they are similar to a pencil case so you can fit more in or they can be compacted slightly. i store them all in a evergreen hip/shoulder bag

Not too impressed with the emeraldas bag. Ive found that some jigs e.g the harimitsu dont sit in there too well due to having a weight that is too wide for the cuts in the foam. And the prongs do bend aswell unless you own the yo-zuri jigs which have a thicker hook. I only bought it because of the name and the colours pretty. lol

Old Plano 3700 trays without many dividers. Small jigs 1.8-2.2 and some 2.5's can fit 2 per slot in the larger sections on the "handle" side. 3+ just sits in a "custom sized" slot around the rest of the box. As most of my squiding/egiing is done it the boat, the trays slot in the side pockets perfectly, or can be stacked like you normally would in a hatch.

Best of all, no damage to the jigs at all in my experience

only the one Megabass jig in there, i prefer to call them Megasnag jigs these days

megasnag? Hilarious!

lol, but i do agree. Maybe in deep water they would be alright, but for the areas we fish they do sink too fast. Hell, even the harimitsus sink a tad too fast for my liking.

I reckon Im always gonna be a yama boy, just luuuurveee them!

Just grind/file some weight off for slower sink rates.:)

I love the Harmys, pitty the barbs are rubbish and don't last very long, you can replace them i have better look into that i have 1/2 dozen stuffed,,

Yo zuri / yammys barbs last forever usually,,

yeah ive had a fair few harimitsu barbs break pretty easily, pretty unfortunate really seeing as they are good jigs.

Ill only ever file the weight down on my crappy jigs, never on the more expensive ones. Absolutely hate it! lol.

Its not a big deal really, if I want a bigger jig that sinks slow, 3.0 yama, if I want a smaller jig but want it to sink a bit faster, 2.5 harimitsu, if I want a rock, 2.0 yoshikawa, haha

Severe breach of privacy there mate! :D:D

G Factor,
Yamas make slow sink models in size 3.5 that sink at 2.0 but havent seen them here. Order from Japan

The G factor
31-10-2010, 03:04 AM
yeah Ive seen those mate, but to be honest Im happy with the way the 3.0 yama sinks. If the hara's did the same I would probably prefer those ( probably not actually...).

The yamas are just so natural. No fancy colous or anything or invisible UV light patterns, just a good looking jig that moves well. Love em!

I just got my limit (15 in W.A)in a bit over an hour this arvo in the kayak.

I was useing a Shimano keimura uv reflecting thingo in white (2.5 g)

I have never seen these before but i got one in white which is transparent from Complete Angler.

I was thinking bright sunny conditions go for a clear lure like folks do with bream.

Whether its as better as any other lure i have no idea,,its the only colour i used but will be my go to lure when the suns up high,,

(squid love whiting so i thought the white is a good idea )

yeah those jigs are awesome, they look mad as in different water depths and light conditions. Seems like shimano have nailed it.

As for go to lures during the day, I have found trust old orange is pretty sweet, if not better in mornings, but still throughout the day they are sweet. Orange jigs with a green back is great.

But my general go to lure is ( Rocksy can confirm this after I bought 12 of the same jig) the dotted/spotted gizzard shad yamaDohDohDohDoha in 3.0 ( or 2.5).

Many times it has outfished others around me and works at any time. Dont know why, but it is bloody amazing. Its not just in Port phillip bay either, I have tried it up and down the east and west coast and it produces there as well. Just one of those things that just work!

yeah it has 2 foam strips with cut outs. the cutout fits the body of most jigs (about 1/2inch from where the barbs start) will take some closer pics of it when i have time.

Shimano Eging Case. It's got hard sleeves which would protect the prongs. Only problem is that it can only hold 10 jigs at a time.

Hmm just a plano box for me,

can't really carry 40 jigs in one of those fancy bags that are an absolute ripoff.
