hey all,
i'm heading to the Bemm with a few mates in a fortnight. i'll be taking my boat and will be fishing the majority of the time. i will mostly be targetting the Estuary Perch, but won't mind a few flatties, bream and whatever else jumps on my line! :D i have an electric if that helps, we will be staying from the Saturday-Tuesday. i have never fished the Bemm before but have always wanted too. i hear the Flathead are freaking HUGE! anyways, all and any advice would be awesome. will be fishing plastics and H/B's.
Cheers,
Justin ;)

Bemm River is a great place that i like to visit at least 3 times a year, first time boaters should always be wary of Bemm as it is a place that needs to be respected because its very shallow, it can get very rough and dangerous, to get the flatties you need to fish the entrance and channel, to get to the channel the safest way is straight out from the boat ramp 100m then head straight for the channel, it should constantly stay at 3-6 foot deep.
The fishing at Bemm is among the best, some people call it the bream capital, weve caught flatties to 83cm and bream to 45 fork there, the eps are in the river it is ep hevan there, it is snaggy as hell and deep, i like to fish 100mm bloodworm wrigglers and other big plastics. There are some perch in there that look like barramundi. Go and talk to Mark in the general store and he'll be able to tell you where there biting. But if you cant catch anything (unlikely) get some lazer lures or something shiny and troll in the channel you are sure to get something.

hey lure addict. thanks for that mate. i can't wait to go! yeah, i hear the lake is very shallow. i'll be very cautious and take it slow. ;)
do you mainly fish the lake or the river for the bream? i understand people should be careful navigating the river as there is some submerged structure, yeah?
also, bloodworm riggler is my 'go to' plastic. so i'm glad that they will be a goer. anyone with any mroe info or 'hot spots' so to say, it would be much appreciated!
cheers guys,
Justin
Hi Justin,
Make sure you've got enough petrol in the boat and car: there is no petrol at Bemm.

For bream, i fish the lake with plastics on the right hand side of the entrance to the channel but bot as far as the mahoganys, its seven foot through there and a great bream spot, Yeah you should be care full when in the river and the further you go up the more snags there is, if you go a fair way you ll definatly hit one or two, but theres plenty of fish there.

I was at Bemm on GF weekend, fishing was very quiet. No one was getting fish. But a place like that the fishing can suddenly change (ie improve).
The entrance is closed. According to locals the EPs have gone, raely seen or caught these last few years.
The general store is a plce for fishin info, but they have a great selection of lures etc

Don't know about the ep's being gone, I fished the river with my son last melb cup w/end, landed a few the best going 51cm, maybe they are trying to keep the perch quite!!!!!!!!
Perch haven been breeding thats what the problem is.

There is.
But launching and getting to the river is the hard part with a 50km/hr westerly.

mr barry the tapman is always there for your to drown your sorrows with
lived in melbourne for 14 yrs and since i was 3 went there 4 times a year every year, still rate it as the best bream fishery i have ever fished, massive numbers of massive fish, truckloads of salmon on silly light gear, summer time perch and croc sized flatties, whats not to love about the place, oh and carrying the old man home from the pub after barry forced an epic drink session when the weather turned foul

Barry sold the pub about 1 month and a half ago, we were there for the breakup.
