I generally don't do anything to them - just pull them off the jig and add them to my 'used' compartment in the tackle bag.

This is the compartment I dive into when there is heaps of Tailor or Toads around, or when I'm fishing really nasty structure - it doesn't hurt as much to loose a pre-loved plastic:D

I also tend to have more faith in a tail that has already caught a fish - and I'll keep using it until it almost falls apart;)

The salt won't effect the plastic in our lifetime Mike, I am not sure what the half-life is of softies but it would be a rather high number;)
As for maintenance, well you can either glue or melt any cuts back together, but I think that is going to extremes. I do what Dave does, into a little container to be used as 'arse-biter bait' or as Lab experiments when creating new colours:D

Cheers

I have had SP's dry out a bit on me (all day in the sun on the tinnies seat) and soaking them in olive oil overnight brings them back like new, just be sure to give them a good squeeze in some sorbent paper before storing them out of the sun.

I have started washing some of my brighter colours as I have noticed they end up almost tea stained from the water.

Bear, I always rinse mine in fresh.

When you re-use a SP that has been used before when you thread the hook thru do you use the previous channel or do you make a new one?

I use the same channel myself. If you put them on properly the original channel should be centred & straight so the softie lays right on the hook so if you go making a new one it will be out one way or the other. What I do when re using them is pop a drop of super glue on the tip of the plastic before I push it against the head & that stops them slipping down.

Ravin,

Thats a Great tip mate!

I have been making a new channel and its far from satisfactory.

I had an extra little compartment in my Plano and now I can have a tube of superglue in there. (thats a definate new one for my tackle box).

Just an after thought remember when superglue first came to australia and they had a TV commercial where they put one drop between to pieces of steel and lifted a car on a crane?

Man, thats showing our age isn't it!

Cheers Ravin,
