What type of price range should i be lookig at for a 4.2 turbo deisel around year 2000 and 150,000km?

The 2.8 will do the job if you like to go slow. 4.2 is a lot better.

mate 2.8 will be gutless... even a 2.8 in a hilux they are not to flash and thats a much liter truck.
The 4.2 is definatly what you will be after played around in a few 4.2 mavericks and patrols and they have pleanty of balls even when they are not turbo'd.
No problem towing a 6m glass boat all over the country with a 4.2 nissan and they are good fun on the tracks too

I'm no expert but for the year 2000 I doubt very much you will get a 4.2 TD Patrol thats done 150,000km, and if you did its gunna be in the vicinity of $25,000 or more I reckon. Have a look at the weblink I've attached and you will get a good idea of the KM's v the $ for the year you looking at. I reckon you will have to settle for over 200,000km on the clock at least for a price range within the mid $20,000's, a 4.2 as I'm aware are very popular in the Patrol world.

Is 200,000km getting a bit to much in your oppinion?
not for a diesel man, theyll go around the clock

100,000km for a diesel is just broken in!;) a diesel will go forever if its serviced often and has a oil change every 5000km. Get the RAC or similar inspection done prior to purchase. I brought a $30,000 Pajero last year and the $150 for a full mechanical check is good peace of mind. If your unsure get it looked at first.
yeah i plan to get a rac check done. i have never had any luck with cars so im going to be extra careful checking the car before buying it. so 200,000km isnt a lot really then?

No mate, if its been looked after you could buy a 300,000km + Diesel Patrol. Or any diesel for that matter. Get your RAC check done, if the cars in good nick buy it. If theres a few minor issues then if the person wants a sale get him to repair the faults or drop the price. You can use the RAC report as a tool to bargain with if faults are picked up by the mechanic.;)
hey guys just found a car that might be what im after. here are the specs:
Toyot Landcruiser 100 series 2004
4.2l deisel ( not turbo) new tyres and suspension
spotties, roof racks, duel batterys some more extras but there not listed.
!70,000km on the clock.
he want $22,000 for it.
What are your thoughts?

You have gone from a Patrol to a Landcruiser. How about telling us your max budget. Then what do you intend to do with the car. ie 4WD, Towing, traveling. Do you definately want a diesel, do you have a boat and how big. Then we can give you our advice. I did nearly a year of research before I brought my 4WD, so do your study first instead of jumping in head first;)

Do yourself a favour and stay away from the 2.8l Patrols and be real careful around cheap Cruisers- alot are ex mine and thrashed

Extras when purchasing a car are always good, but don't get distracted, you want a sound engine. People in here can give good advice and thoughts on a car if they can see it ie online but this is only from what they read. It comes down to you in making sure the car is worth what you pay. So get an inspection done and then you can make your decision. In the mean time once people know all your intentions for your car they can give you some makes and models to check out and price ranges.

Good advice I heard the same thing last year cleetus and I left them alone.
Thanks guys. At the moment I have an fj60. But it's almost dead. I have a 5.5mtr fibreglass half cab. And I do love my fishing, and going bush but I don't get to do that as much as I would like.

I brought a 2005 GLX 3.2TD Pajero and have towed a 6mt boat to exmouth and back a few times without a hassle. The Pajeros are great on the beach and the Turbo Diesels have heaps of grunt. Im a Mitsubishi man, so I cant comment on Landcruisers or Patrols. You can get a 3.2 Turbo Diesel Pajero maybe 2002 - 03 with around 200,000km+ on the clock for under $25,000. Or a V6 with way less. IMO if your towing especially a fibreglass boat get a Diesel engine. Theres not many on car sales.com atm. The 3.2's are hard to come by as they are very popular but this V6 is a bargain IMO.
