just get the reel oil they sell at DohDohDoh and dont put anythig in the reel that has nothing to do with fishing.

On all my reels,
I use 'Protecta' spray to clean out any water and old oil/grease then let it drip dry. I use 'Protecta' reel oil for bearings, shafts etc and then 'Inox' reel grease for gears.
Works a treat. These 3 might cost a bit to start with but will last a long time and keep your reels in top condition.

Quantam Hot Sauce grease and oil is the best IMO, quite a few guys use it

Poe refrigeration oil for bearings and pure marine grade light teflon grease for gears as its impervious to water..eg...if water gets into your reel it will not mix with the grease which you only wipe on as a smear...its THAT good

Unless it is getting covered in salt spray from breaking waves(land based) or crashing through chop (boat based) - my advice is to use it as often as possible and leave it as is:)
I often hear of problems with reels I own - these are problems that I havent experienced - you have to flog them hard, day after day, week after week, year after year, to wear them out properly.
The worst thing you can do to a reel is not use it for a couple of weeks.
In my experience - A Bream reel is like a race-horse.
Feed it Big-Macs, take interesting photo's of it and leave it in the stable and it wont perform to its potential.
But hit it with a stick and give it a regular run and you will get the best out of it:D
If you work it hard enough - the day will come when you recognise you have gone too far:D

Bender - I am aware of your pedigree, so I wont try to dazzle you with my limited experience;)
I'm not defending any Brand of reel.
If any reel remains unused for more than 3 days - you get what you deserve;)
But if you bought Sh1tmano - you should know better:D.
The only maintenance I do on my seldom used Daiwa's, is to smack them with with a treated-pine log once a month. (and thats just to keep them on their toes;))

When you oil the Stradic use the little tube of oil you got in the box, at least you should have got one. Theres a little screw on the side, take it off and it needs about 2 - 3 drops. But seeing as though your reel is under 6 months old as you said either you have a faulty reel or its full of sand/grit. Give it a rinse with warm soapy water, dry it off and spray and wipe it with Inox. See if that helps, if not take it back to the shop where you brought it and explain your problem. What model is it by the way?

not putting anyone out here but warm soapy water or any water is the reason most reels run rough in the first place. you can even void your warrenty if water is found in the reel.
No stradic is waterproof and they are hardly even water resistant. Only ever wipe your reel with a wet cloth sqeezed out and in 99.9999999999 percent of cases a noisy reel is often only the line roller.
If you do think its noisy then remove it from the rod and hold it with 2 fingers under the reel foot and your thumb right along the reel foot where it actually touches the rod reel seat then turn the handle.
This takes away any unwanted magnified noise such as from the hollow rod blank or the shape of the reel foot as you have filled the bottom of the reel foot with your thumb.
It the reel is quiet then the next step is hold the reel with your knees and run some line (about 40cm) around the bail roller twice then grab the ends and run the line back and fourth to work the roller ...you will soon hear if its noisy.

I will carry 4 or 5 in a comp and use them if needed over the 3 days etc then wash and re oil the used ones ready for the next change. Salt will crystalize in them after a session then they become lumpy and noisy...looked at on under a scope one day and i was amazed at what the salt had turned into...i had an enlightening experience.....:D

I have had stradics since the beginning and have just updated mine to the new ones, value for cash i rate them. Like someone has already said the only real (reel) noise i got from mine was from the roller bearing and thats just a screw driver clean and oil job and its back like new.

I have to only partly agree there! For years I have always rinsed my 12 odd reels with warm soapy water, and I have never had a problem. And all my cheapest reel is worth $300 up to $800. I do this after every use religiously. Saying that when I say rinse, I squeeze a sponge over the reels and I always have the drag done up tight. Never put a reel under a running tap or hose as the pressure can force water into places its not meant to go. And always give your reels a wipe afterwards with a water dispersant spray such as Inox. Most reels will be fine if you follow these rules. JMO:)

On this topic, I figured out what was making noise in my exceler when i used fireline. The roller was not turning at all. Fireline being rough make alot of noise as it rubbed over it, my fins braid was quiet.
After pulling the roller apart, cleaning and re-oiling it still makes noise but turns now.
What is the best way of cleaning the bearings out properly? I want to try fix it this morning for a squid session tomorrow.
Cheers,

Cheers mate, i thought that might be the case. I'll soak it in spray lube/cleaner for a while, re-oil and try get another session out of it.
