As the title states has anyone used Sunline Basic FC for leader material? if so how did it perform. It states it has single resin processing compared with the FC Rock's triple resin processing? Is this marketing gimmickery or is the FC more abrasion resistant?
IF the Basic FC is good it would make for a cheap leader.

i fish it as leader and sometimes in a comp i even pull some braid off the reel and wind on 70 meters of the sunline so that i can fish it straight through...thats the bonus for having it on a 300 meter spool

Found it to knot horribly when fished straight through, but Ive used the 100m spools of flouro leader to good effect as main line. I think I just fish/cast better with a stiffer line, not soft spongy stuff.

we are all using it as main line and having no knots or problems but we run our line out on the grass for 20 meters at least once every session to get rid of any line twist ...that way we have no hassels at all

Thanks fro the replies thus far. As far as I can deduce onle bender is using it as a leader and main line.
Brad unsure about your post whether you like it or not. Sounds like you dont like it as a main line (which I wont be using ot for) But have you used it as a leader and how have you found it. Also are you saying this is a limp or stiff line?
Let us know how you go Minowman.

its nice and soft but not too soft.. I love it as a main line and as lone as you use good knots there is no problem... With braid i use a figure of 8 with a few more turns to make a loop then use this double end to tie an albright and i rarely have problems

I only use Basic FC for straight through and the FC rock for leader material. Call me naive but I reckon that if Sunline say they are two different products and have two different stated uses, then they should be kept to those stated uses. I'm not sure if there is a difference in the stretch lengths of the two but I used straight through FC on plastics recently and found I was missing fish due to the stretch on a
I asked a similar question in relation to Berkely Vanish in 50m spools for leader and 250yd spools (which is cheaper) and a response that I got was that the straight through material was not suitable as a leader since it had lower impact resistance but the increased stretch over the length of straight through counteracted this. My interpretaton of this is that over a short length, the straight through material has less ability to take the initial shock of a hit and first run than the leader material.
In saying there were other responses were where people were using the Vanish straight through material for leaders quite successfully so I can only suggest to try it and see.

i love the stretch...it might be harder to hook fish sometimes but i lose less overall due to the stretch which takes the shocks real good....nothing is black and white so use whatever whenever and break the rules because without this then nothing would ever be discovered would it. Never take anything on any forum as gospel...simply use it as a guide and make up your own mind

I use it straight thru and only have knot problems when I over fill the spool
I use the 4Lb and love it
I recently gave the 5Lb Sniper a run and really don't like it at all get hard and snaps easy

Thanks for the replies thus far, knpts not being as strong is def a deal breaker here.

I use it as a leader and have been pretty happy with it.
As far as knots go I have found that different braids like different knots. I think it is softer and when I changed to Suffix Performance and super PE which are finer than fireline I started have knot problems. I think the braid was slicing through the softer line. Changed my leader knot to the slim beauty and the problem disappears (unless I stuff the knot).
I still use it as a leader and overall I'm pretty happy with it. A mate who put me onto it is now using a Nitlon leader which comes in 100m spools at a reasonable price, which he says it better. I don't like the economics of the 30yd spools so I might try that one next. Might be a while before I've gone through 300m of FC though.

i thought it had more memory than 100% fluoro. i do leave my leader on my reel when i'm not fishing (opposed to changing it each time i fish)
else the price and dispenser it comes in are coolio. knots haven't been an issue

for me, if given the choice i would go the FC Rock as a leader - i find it knots better and has better abrasion resistance.
the resin processing isn't just a gimmick - if you compare Basic FC versus Rockfish versus V-Hard you can tell the difference in quality.
some people don't like it but for cheaper leader i use the Daiwa TD-R fluoro. main reason for choice is that FC Rock spool is too bulky to fit into my lure bag :)

i have used basic and rock for years
either straight though and as leaders
i differnce i find is the abrasion
the basic when racked or leased goes furry
where as the rock gets small kniks in it
aslo make sure you use a long leader with the basic
my hook up rate goes to hell if i have a short leader( from change lures all day and not leaders, lol
both are the only leaders i would use till someone showed me better
