Hello everyone
l just finished reading Steve Starlling' article on line diameters & was interested in any feedback that anyone would have concerning this issue.:o
l was considering using flurocarbon to the hook, but it was recomended to use super 100 as it was cheaper & if anything just as good as flurocarbon.:confused
l fish for trout on impoundments & small salmon, silver trevally & whiting in saltwater.
Thanx

Hi Vulcan,
What's super 100? Who's making it?
You shouldn't judge the quality based on the price alone. Check and compare properties of both fluoro and "super 100", i.e diameter, breaking strain, visibility, durability, abrasion and UV resistance, etc. If they are the same, then consider the cheapest.
Or ask more questions here, guys will help.
Cheers,
Alex

Super 100 is a fine for breaking strain monofilament from Platypus.
I've seen it heavily criticised for general fishing, things like poor knot strength, lack of abrasion resistance, etc.
Personally I think that there are a few main qualities that are desirable in a line and you can't have all of them all ata once.
You need to make a decision about which are the most important qualities for the situation you're in and choose a line that embodies those characteristics.
If you want ultra thin for breaking starin, you have to expect that resistant to abrasion will be lessened, knot strength too is likely to go down. Pick appropriate knots, ones that retain a high percentage of the breaking strain, don't use the line where contact with rocks, etc is likely.
Penn 10X is widely praised for abrasion resistance and lack od stretch, personally I think it feels wire-like and not something I'd use for general purpose fishing. If I was going rock fishing though it would probably be excellent and I would sacrifice limpness and easy handling to gain the extra toughness.

There is nothing better than fluorocarbon in terms of abrasion resistance. For all the fish you mentioned, spool up with 4lb Fireline and use a 2m plus leader of appropriately rated fluoro. It's also far less visible than mono underwater. Connect the leader with an albright, or use a bimini/albright or bimini/uni knot combination.
Super 100, Penn 10x etc are all decent enough lines, but for leader material go the fluoro.
