Hi all,
What types of Sp's would you recommend for a beginner. I have used shad style softies before but not any other styles. (not for bream) I have heard the 1.5" sliders are good and the 2" fat grubs by atomic. What colours sizes and styles would you go for. Also what weight jig heads. I fish mainly in a river with virtually no tidal flow. Sometimes in a bay where there is a fair bit of flow as the tide rips through the main channel. What weights and sizes would you recommend for both of these places?
Thanks Heaps

Hey Eddy. How's things on the mainland? Chilly I bet.
A geezer at the local tackle shop pushed a pack of Storm rattle grubs (pumpkin seed) under my nose 4 weeks ago and I have had great success. I have gone through 2 packs so far, courtesy of the leatherjackets. They chew the bum right out of them.
Completely by accident i left a few in a bag with some tomato squidgies (don't like em). Anyway they all bled into a weird browny reddy colour and have found them better. Saying that we aren't catching many. We are seeing stacks of big sleepy fella's.
They follow them in but shy off when they hear the giggles of the excited puppies hanging onto the rods.
I am going to take a .222 rifle with us next time. We should have better results. It worked on Paddy's River NSW. My old man lives on the river. A few times we have been going for Yellabelly only to have these monstrous carp hassle the lures or bait.
So the carp got a very sudden case of "lead poisoning" .

Gday eddie,
Id say any of the below would work well, Id also throw in some of the new Berkley Tournament grubs in the online shop, they seem to be murdering them at the moment, especially Pumpkinseed.
Atomic 2" Fat Grub: Brown Crawdad, Amber, Avocado Gold
Slider 1.5": Pumpkinseed, Muscadine, White, Motor Oil, Caomfague
Ecogear Grass Minnow S: 101, 104, 312
Gene Larew Crappie Spider: Pumpkinseed, Gold Glitter
Jigs:
Gamakatsu Round 25 1/16th s2
Gamakatsu Round 25 1/22nd s2
Nitro Das Blackeye 1/16th s2
Gamakatsu Round 211 1/32nd s2
cheers

eddystone...
I think the most consistant bream catcher for most people has been the 2" Muscadine Slider. (paddle tail). Personally...I think for starters, use a very low profile plastic...natural looking color, nothing too fancy, like Breammaster 1.5" motoroil gold single tails? Or the smaller sliders like you said. You've just gotta see what works best for you on the day though...its a toughy. There's no right or wrong answer.

I find these thoughts on jig size and s/p's very educational as i am in my kindergarden stage of my bream on lure stage.
To Wingala your signature talks about mother nature titanic noahs ark etc etc but in your quote you talk about shooting carp "lead poisoning". Putting lead in our water ways now thats a way to help mother nature. CU
