Hi all,
Great site ya have here!!!!
Just asking for opinions on matching a reel I have had for a bit (Okuma Fina fa30) with a decent stick.
Looked at the Shimano Stella 6'6". I'm not sure if the reel is too heavy or big??!!! Maybe I should have got a 20??
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Josh

Welcome to the site mate;)
Will you be using your setup for Hardbodies or softplastics?

hey bream destroyer iv got one of those reels(fina 30), and iv matched it with a shakespeare synergy 6'6 6-12lb, its pretty good but if you want an even better rod try the tica range thay have some very nice and light rods, and i didnt know you could get a fina 20, bummer, and how much did you get ur reel for?

I'll probably be using it more for the softies. I still wanna be able to flick some lighter hardbodies around as well.
Oh yeah, I was going to get the "Avenger" 20, but the budget made me choose the 5 ball-bearing FINA. Slightly bigger, but I think it is fairly light. Got my reel for $63.
Cheers for the tips guys,
Josh

The fina doesn't come in a 20, but its fairly small for a 30, imho, mines matched to 6' silstar power tip (pf601spxl). its a top value general purpose light spin rig and a joy to use. came in a combo for about 90 smackers.
I was checking out some of the tica range of carbon rods the other day and they seem to be excellent value for money.
The best advise I can give is, take the reel with when you buy a rod, match them up, and see how it feels for you. If it feels good and balanced, then your half way home. I like a rod with some guts in the butt and some flick in the tip.
best of luck whatever you decide on.
Hi guys,
I use the 30 i have one the Reaper 6'6", so I think a Stell 6'6" would be fine. My brother recently tries mine on his Stella and is getting one for himself.
Bought mine for $50 in Albany. Cheap, cheap :D

I've got a shakespeare catera which is the next one up from the synergy and I find that its excellent for casting sp's and is fairly good casting medium weight hb's. They're pretty hard to find but for $80-$90 i think they're a great rod.

i've got mine on a Synergy 6'6" aswell. It's the 6-12lb and the balance is sweet. I reckon you could put it on the 4-8lb 6'6" Synergy but you'd have to trim the butt so it isn't too butt heavy. I'm real happy with my set up because it's really versatile. Imagine chasing trevally and the like up north... Any way casting is a dream with 4lb fireline is a dream. What else can I say, it has finesse and it has grunt. All up this outfit cost me $100. But the Synergy's and Fina's seem to be going up in price now but I doubt you'll pay more than $140 where ever you are. Good luck.

Thanks all for your replies!
I am now considering the 7' Squidgy Spin for it as well. It gets good reports on here.
Would you prefer it to the "Stella" for mostly landbased spinning with hard and soft plastics????
