Hey Warren

That is a sweet boat
What hull is it and how much would it cost all up

It will hold barra too Wazza...LOL

Brody, it's a quintrex 435 standard (Non trophy) hull with extruded side decks. Should retail for about the same as a trophy but with a layout that is actually useful for breamin.

It's about $3500 to go from a std hull to a trophy after you deduct the value of the sounder. This will come in at about the same even with full wiring and plumbing. At least you can fit 10 good sized bream in the livewell as opposed to the hand basin quintrex give you in the trophy. It will also fit heaps of rods, bags, lunch, keys, wallet, mobile etc etc all safe and dry. Full walkaround deck and a cockpit that will seat four guys if need be.

I can't wait to see it finished.

Warren.

About the "hand basin", We've got one that came standard in our topender 435.

Its a great boat though Good for breamin( just need an electric), crabbing Inshore fishing and offshore fishing Some times we Go out 7 Kilometres with it and it handles Great.

It is justa great all rounder.

Hey warren, you sure you want to go 60hp in a tiller steer? If you need to do any long distance travelling, tiller steers suck at the best of times. The torque generated by a 60hp motor will mean you might end up with one arm a lot more muscular than the other :D

Bream Master
07-08-2003, 09:17 PM
The guys doing the fab have kept my initial plan so they can modify to suit. If you would prefer only one rod locker, maybe have it 8 foot instead of 7, less livewell, run plastic tanks under the back deck etc etc etc.

They built alloy boats in Bunbury, do work on existing boats both sail and motor, in fact anything you want.

I'm going out there again today. I'll post some more pics tonight.

It may end up at a 50hp yet, it's just the price difference between the two is minimal.

We're just waiting to see how the rear splash well ends up as far as tiller height etc.

Just a short note champ about the floatation... Boats arent "sposed" to have it.. For an example plate aluminium boats are a huge selling type of boat over here in the west and not one of them have positive floation or any sort of floatation in them...

Just to cover myself a little bit, i not advising either way, it was just a point saying that there is not a law as such at the moment...Wot it will effect of coarse will be your warranty and you might want to look into your insurance side of things...Just covering myself , cant be too careful these days:)
Hope it helps:)

We've made a slight mod to the rod lockers at the end of last week. We're actually going to press them out of plate now to give the finished product a better look.

As for the positive flotation, with the engine on, the fuel in, the livewell full and the batteries in the front, you'd need to pump the entire boat full of foam for it to have any hope of floating..LOL

I'm "positive" I'll have "flotation" if it goes under. A lifejacket...

Way to go Warren. Is Brownie building that at Millards or somewhere else in Bunbury? I only know of the Assasin boat factory at Sports Marine. I'm taking my boat into Millards soon for a service so I'll ask Mark for a sneaky peak.

Popped out for a quick peek today. The motor is on (Yamaha 4 stroke 50hp tiller steer) and the boys will be building the motor well and putting everything together tomorrow.

Then it's off to the painters midweek. We should be putting the plumbing and electrics in next week, decks the following week and then it's on the water.

We've decided to put flotation under the floor and livewell as it's only foam and easy to stuff in there.

Should be ready to go mid September for a couple of prefish's at Mandurah.

Kurt's going to fish out of it for the season. It puts another boater in the field which means one more non boater can fish. I still need a boat I can go exploring in and the old team boat does the trick nicely. It will probably go up for sale at the end of the season.

You'd be surprised at just how little foam it takes to make it float positive bgouyancy if flooded.

Example.

The livewell - you would think that 160 litres of water would take a lot of foam to float - but it only weighs the same as the surrounding water thats flooded the boat so it's bouyancy neutral with the exception of the alloy sheet it's made from.

The fuel tank - fuels lighter than water - so the fuel tank is positive bouyancy in itself - the passengers are about 70% water so you only need to displace enough to float 30% of their body weight.

1 cubic foot of foam displaces 60 pounds of water - simply weigh the boat over a weighbridge on it's trailer - then drop it in the drink with a minder and go weight the trailer separate and deduct the trailer weight from the total and you have the weight of your rig.

Not hard to figure how much foam you need then..

If you do put foam in - don't use poly styrene, because any spilt fuel while filling up or from a cracked fuel line and your foam is a cupfull of sticky molten black goo.

Best to use high density polyeurothane, closed cell foam that fire retardant. Cut it into blocks to fit and wrap in heavey black plastic just like a chrissy present and seal with waterproof 100mph gaffa tape.

This stops the foam crumbling with wave pounding / hull flex and the crumbs floating on the bilge water down to your bilge pump and blocking the screen and hence burning out the bilge pump.

Try and get a LOT of foam down the stern end - thats where all the engine weight is.

She's lookin good - best of luck with her.

As to the tiller steering - well I hang off a 50 Merc 4 stroke all day and yes it CAN make your arm tired and yes you will end up with a hunched back like Quasimodo the hunchback of Notredam...

Not too bad for river fishing - however I once did a 24 mile trip across from Denham to Dirk Hartog in mine - then 40 miles along the inside edge of Hartog in some snotty stuff and another 34 Nm straight line from Western end Hartog diagonally across the western gulf back to Denham and it's no fun swingin off a tiller for that long lemme tell you.

If you plan on any long dustance running in the salt then definitely consider a console & steering wheel..IMHO

Cheers!

chris_lemess
23-09-2003, 01:24 AM
Warren - any reason you're not getting a simple side console fitted? Distances are generally short in the rivers we fish down here, but as for heading up north or travelling across the larger inlets down south; surely a side console would be more comfortable?

I guess you've considered it and are doing the tiller steer for a reason...

Nice boat by the way - love the layout.

cheers

I spoke to a guy at the trade show who has a 435 side console and he says it's a pain in the bum for trimming.

The complete walkaround is much more user friendly and you don't have to watch where you are stepping.

Well lads,
Just had a sneak peak at the boat, what can i say "SENSATIONAL". It looks like all the hard work and planning that has gone into the boat has paid off. Just need a few small jobs to be completed on it and then she shall be reading to catch a few "MONSTER" bream. She will be already to go and run in hopefully for the Mandurah comp so lads have a look and give us back some positive feed back, after all we are doing this to suit your needs and desires.
No excuses now Warren!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've snapped a few shots guys but the bloody camera has run out of battery power. I'll have to download them at home tonight under mains power.

Perhaps browndog could snap a couple this afternoon and load them up from Millards.

Anyway, it's exceeding our expectations in terms of presentation and functionality. It's a credit to the 4 tradesmen who have put it together. Considering they only had my drawings to go off, they've done a great job.

Mark is working on some final costings at the moment, but it should come in a fraction over the price of a trophy, but with a heap more functionality.

No way - that is awesome! Perfect walk-around tourney boat! Wouldn't want to do much else in it what with the lack of overall space - but perfect for tourneys! :) Man I love that sunken cockpit thing you've got going... looks alot like the bass boats that have decks flush with the gunwhales...

Imagine that in the 445 with side console and a 60hp on the back... ooooh...

Bream Master
25-09-2003, 03:51 AM
The cockpit size is a bit deceiving in the pic. It's actually 1.1 metres wide and about 1.5 metres long.

The full walkaround is exactly what I wanted, and we got it up as high as we could for visibility while fishing. We've had the patterns done so guys can have whatever layout they want (ie. only one rod locker, longer or shorter lockers, smaller livewell, more storage etc etc).

I can't wait to get it out on the water next weekend (In the Collie River).

At least now we have our own "hornet heaven" type customiser here in WA.

All feedback appreciated guys as the boys at Millards are setting up to be the major supplier of quintrex bream boats here in WA (not that they aren't already...LOL)

Warren.

chris_lemess
25-09-2003, 04:21 AM
The good thing is that the more of this Millards do, the more they'll learn what we want in the boats. It seems it helps a lot when dealers like Caloundra City over east know exactly what the guys want, and can produce it to perfection.

Can't wait to see yours in action. All it needs now is a tow point... to give my poor little dinghy a helping hand all.. the... way... across..... the...... peel...... inlet. :)

Bream Master
25-09-2003, 05:40 AM
We're all in the same boat Chris, it's five or eight knots most of the way. It's only that mad couple of km's in the open water that the bigger engines will come into their own.

Hopefully most of the big motors will be at the back, should make a bit of a spectacle for the little tinnies as the fast ones go by, and a couple may still beat us to the black marker. I remember Sewelly coming up behind us last year from the back of the fleet and thinking..."What the %#@* has he got on the back of that thing ???"

Forty boats all converging on one little channel full throttle will be a pretty hairy event.

Warren.

chris_lemess
25-09-2003, 06:23 AM
It's be more fun if there were gorges either side not channel markers. And the gap only fit one boat. Kinda like in Bad Boys 1, where the two cars are converging on the same small space.

Now that'd be a sight to see! :)

Bream Master
25-09-2003, 07:48 PM
Here's a pic that gives a bit better idea of the cockpit size. It's basically the same length as a normal 435 cockpit (where the bulkheads are are where the seats used to be), except you've lost 30cm each side for a rod locker.
