I dunno i thought id run this idea past u guys do u think that if u bent a hook and then got a soldering iron and melted solder where the bend is do u think it would work???
or would the smell of the chemicals in solder affect the fish.
My electronics teacher told a kid off for wasting solder by making big blobs for the hell of it and the kid said its ok ill just melt the blob and use it again but the teacher said its lost it sertain chemical or some crap so he couldnt use it again.so i figured that it might release stuff while being used or maybe the smeel would put them off??????????

Can any body add to this idea or just give me constructive critesisme:) :) :) :) :)

Hi,
I've tried your approach many months back and I find that the jigheads made are too light. And your teacher is probably right, it's alot of tin( that's what the solder's made of) need to get the same weight as normal lead jigs. I think the easier is to crimp a splitshot to the hook. imho. Cheers!

Solder is mix of lead and tin.
The solder used in electronics usually has a core of resin (flux) basically it helps the solder flow and make good contact with components being soldered. Once its been used it's not worth reusing (for soldering). There is no Chemical change to the metal in the solder.
The resin is left around the outside of the cooled solder and can be cleaned off and will leave no real trace.
I have used solder to make sinkers. There is reasons you shouldn't, but I can't recall them right now. Could just be cost thing.

Years ago I made a lot of my own lures for spinning off the rocks,
I would buy a lure, make a plaster mould, and pour lead in to make my own. Lead on it's own was too soft, so we would buy bars of solder with a high tin content to strengthen it.

Memories!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone else have a 621 seascape, I know Raven had!

So what if u used a split shot and then push the hook in the middle of it and fill the cap with solder that way u dont squish ur split shot to DohDohDohDoh and it loses its shape.:)
