Begginers Outfit

Im in need of a rod and reel combo because basically if i wanna get get seriouse about my fishing id be best off by buying proper stuff not just things iv slapped together.Im 14 and i get $25 a foughtnight so basically if i wanna get good gear itll take me a fare few weeks. Can any one tell me of some good rod and reel for casting light lures like atomics a fare distance while being acurate and not braking the bank.
Also i dont have many good retailers around but does Kmart or Big w have anything good for this.:rolleyes: :rolleyes:

it's not about distance as much dagga, it's more about accuracy.

i have a cheapie bream combo from k-mart and that's been working ok, but i think THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to have is the fireline!

You could check the paper, swap meets or garage sales.
Sometimes U can find bargains. Salty found a G.Loomis and stradic combo from the paper for $200 complete with fireline.
Brand new this combo could set U back ~$700.
Now that's a real BARGAIN

anything that's whippy enough around the 6-7 foot mark'll do ya for starters. And any reel that's smooth and small at your financial status. I reckon you make more than me and I'm 19! SOMEONE EMPLOY ME! I've been making do with an old Jarvis Walker rod from the rottnest lost n found, woulda been about $15 brand new. A bit stiff but does the job...sorta. Before about a few months ago I was using, and doing ok, with a $15 royobi reel from Big W that was fine untill it seized up. Then I got an Abu Cardinal 303 for $60. If ya looking around that price, the Okuma fina reels are a good bye. For a similar price, the shakespear synergy rods or penn powersticks look alright too. might be my next step up in the food chain.

I only started fishing the river with more than a passing interest this year. I started out with a $100 6'6" general purpose rexy combo from K-Mart, I had laying around. Second time out fishing with lures and I got onto the fish. Upgrade my line to fireline and got more distance on my cast.

Bought a 7' squidgy and a Okuma av-15, so a low end breamming outfit been out about 12 times with it now and haven't caught a fish at all. I haven't found my casting distance greatly increase but I have found it more responsive.

I found the opposite when I started out. Couldn't get a fish with a cheap fibreglass rod even with fireline. Once I changed over to a Stella 66 suddenly I started catching fish. This probably had alot to do with the areas I was fishing at the time, ie wading shallow flats. The areas I fish now definitely only require shorter casts where a cheap rod can still catch fish, which has been proved to me by a mate who has only just been introduced to bream spinning.

Hmmmm i dunno what to do i find it hard to save my money cos i allways spend it on lures and i never get to use them at there full potential.

I have a Mitchel 308X coupled to a Surecatch Microlight ML601SP and it cost me about $120.00 for both. With Fireline and Leader the whole set-up would only cost about $150.00.
I have rods and reels costing megabucks and always seem to come back to this outfit. It is light and responsive and I have pulled some great fish. The reel has a super-smooth drag.
So for $150.00 you could get a great little outfit. Just remember to look after it.

Setting up an outfit like this allows you to spend more on the other goodies.......lures etc. (Angler attracters)

Ok but where can i get a rod like that i have K-mart and Big W as for fishing shops well theres 2 hunting and fishing shop where i live but i dont think they have to much stuff......What to do??????

Oh and thanks to Theo i found this rod on the net.Does any body have one???and does any body know anything about it and where i can get one???
