Hi guys, I have a 5.6 plate alloy boat which currently has an old 115hp yamaha 2 stroke. The trim recently died and we have decided to upgrade. We are looking at a used 200Hp Yamaha HDPI. Just wondering what you guys think. Is it too big??? and is it too much for a 5.6m boat???
Cheers,

Your hull should have a plate which states maximum horsepower and max motor weight allowed for the hull, you need to stick to that.

Id go to a few different Boat websites such as Allycraft, Stacer and Quintrex etc and see what the closest length and style boat is to yours and have a look a the Max horsepower engine for them, and use that as a rough guide if you cant find an ID plate on your boat. I'm just guessing here but a 200 sounds like way to much for any 5.6mt boat. I'm pretty sure you will find 125 - 150 is about the Max for your size boat.

Its a 5.6m Custom Plate Alloy. It was built by a WA company in 1994. Also, when the boat was purchased, the owner said that he was planning to fit a 175 on the boat.

do you have any more info on the boat brand/model? Like Emo says, you will need to comply with the build specs;)

Any reason you want the bigger motor or is it just that it is available. I suspect that with the 115 you are rarely ever at WOT on the water unless it is an exceptionally good day. A bigger motor isn't gonna help you push into the waves any harder coming home from a long day in the deep.
Just as a matter of interest the HPDI weighs 216kg. The current 115hp 2 stroke comes in at 163kg.

The only reason why I am considering this engine is because there is one for a good price and we are desperate to get the boat back on the water.
