Hi all

I know all you serious breamo's out there use flourocarbon line as your leader. But myself getting out maybe twice a month during school term, i don't think i need a flourocarbon line.

Do any of you out there use a normal mono leader say berkley trilene, maxima, platil etc

I recently got a spool of Platil Universal Green, do you think this is good enough to fool Mr Bream ( it's 9lb - 0.25mm).

On the packet it reckons it's invisible to fish, being green in colour, well i think thats what they mean.

Please help me :(

cheers breamobasser ;)

Hi there,
i have caught heaps of fish down south in the last couple of years and all on a mono leader in six lb.
the bloke i fish with uses flurocarbon and over that time we have much the same catch rate.
to sum it up i think it makes no differance but whatever gives you the most confidence...:)

DISCLAMER...
this is my opion and i have only fished rivers down south..

:) :) :)

gday.
I only recently started using fc.
I am noticing the differences already. I think it comes into its own when things are quiet, and also around heavy structure.
Mate if you dont get out much...even more the reason to buy fc. It'll last you ages!:D
Id have a look at stren and platil mono (the grey is what i used) in 6lb as a leader if you dont go with a fc of some sort!

Mate, don't get hung up on what people might say you 'need' when it comes to catching bream etc. You don't need 'the best gear' to get into some good fishing. Use what you're most comfortable using, but remember to always try out new things.

Regarding the line (and as Steve mentioned, this is MY opinion), people use the FC line because they feel it's better for whatever reasons they might have, that doesn't mean it's a MUST for everyone to use. Personally I use a selection of leaders to suit the conditions or just to try something different (or stupid like 1kg hah), my most common leader has always been Penn Powerline or Penn 10x, and more recently Platil Ghost FC. Then I have a few other random run-of-the-mill mono brands - ranging from 1kg to 6kg.

I haven't used many FC brands but I have been giving the Platil Ghost a good work out recently and have been very impressed with the abrasion resistance. If you're fishing structure a lot then you want/need a leader that is specifically made for abrasion resistance (such as FC or the Penn monos like 10x and Powerline) as most of normal monofilament lines are not. I've had a lot of fish wrap me around pylons or snags and have been able to drag them straight out when using the FC, whereas if I had been using normal mono I'd have had no chance.

Anyway to bring my rambling to a close, if you want an all-round leader that should give you the maximum chances in whatever situation and you’re not wanting to spend heaps on different monos and FC, then grab some CLEAR Powerline in say 9lb or whatever lb you want to use. Either that or just stick with what you have, it’ll do the job fine!

Grab some FC when you get the chance, you might be surprised...i'll shut up now :-)
