i have only caught 3 whiting on popper before it was on a clear bubble pop 45. Does anyone have some good tips or lures for me, most of the time i'm landbased fishing.
I've heard mate a very short heavy leader eg. (15-20cm 20Lb) long helps the poppers "track" alot straighter and make them seem more appealing??? just what ive heard.
Stiffy poppers seem to be popular also.
cheers

dont pause the popper like you would for a bream. the whiting will lose interest very fast

true Dell, a constant retrieve is the go, polarised lookers are a must, if you see whiting then swim it. feathered rear trebles help too.

Stiffy poppers have been my go to for consistancy so far, their ability to be used in all but a Cyclone make sthem very versitile.

I normally would use a rebel popper, at a slow constent pop. That normally work for whiting and flathead, also a tip that i found work REALLY well, is that when you see some kind of structure just beneath the water, the best thing to do is stop retreiving(working) your lure and gives it tiny little tweaks as its just above the structure. It works a treat:D. Well I hope this helps.

thanks for the tips guys.
I am a SW Fly fisher trying to get my own style of fly poppers to work.
From what I have seen Garfish and snook like the poppers moving.By the time I had read that the popper fly should be moving I had injured my knee and only had one chance to cast at a school.Got a few hits but what the little buggers did to my leader i should have hung them:eek:.
I havent landed one yet but when I find a school again I will:D.
And I'm still waiting on finding some whiting over here.Funny used to catch under size whiting every where when I used bait.
