OK, time to put pride aside and ask a couple of dumb questions...

1) After finishing for the day, do you:
Remove the SP from the jig head, turf the SP and rinse the jig head in fresh water
Remove SP from the Jig head, rinse both, and keep both
Leave the SP on the jig head, rinse as a single unit and store with the SP still fitted
Turf both the jighead and the SP
2) I find that using such light rigs that the line doesn't pack onto the spool as it does when you're using bait and sinkers. This causes the odd tangle from time to time. Is this normal?

Glad I got that off my chest :)
Cheers,
Scott

Scott,

C.

Thats normal with the spool too. Throwing light jigs results in the line sometimes coming back on the spool quite loosely. You just need to be careful with it.

and by manually engaging your bail arm with your free hand (don't crank it over) and tensioning your line as you reel in you should stop most tangles.

As the guys have already said, light jig heads will spool the line on loosely, but you also need to make sure you have not overfilled the spool. This has been a common problem.

While you are fishing belt out a really long cast every now and then and retrieve the line through your fingers to re-tension it.
Do the same as a last cast before you pack up for the day.
That helps keep the loose loops/tangles at bay.
When I've finished I usually just leave the tail on the jig and if I've been fishing in salty/brackish water rinse the thing under fresh water, shake it dry and put it away.

I actually use a sinker clip, clip a heavyish sinker on and give it a cast every now and then. Wind it in semi quick and it is all tight again :D

I usually seperate plastic from jighead, rinse and dry both and put back in the tackle box :D

Hiya...

After a session SP's I generally tend to throw the jig and SP into my bag, chuck a little tantrum and then head home to have a little cry. Not really having any luck with the SP's.

If I notice my line getting loose or even forming loops I just crank it out and tension the line between my fingers and retrieve.

...Cheers

Guys,

Thanks for the replies...even though I've been a little tardy in reading them.

Shane - its exactly where I'm at and couldn't have said it better myself...just I've gotta have a sook on the way home cause there's no sympathy there! When the wife sees me packing the rod she says "look kids, the fish are safe today!":(

Cheers,
Scott
