Bali Fishing

Hi all

Off to Bali tomorrow - hadnt really thought about it till now, but is it worth taking a rod to have a flick off the beaches up there (staying in Sanur)?

What about charters - anybody got any recommendations?

If not, guess I'll just have to sit back and enjoy a few beers!!

Hey Darren,

in a word 'NO'! Don't bother. If you were heading off to the islands it would be different but I spent many winters surfing there and never had much luck on Bali itself. A former fly fishing guide mate of mine has been living there for the past six or seven years and he has all but given fishing away since moving there.

I have found some good fishing on Lombok and Sumbawa but not on Bali - or at least that end of Bali i.e. Bukit Peninsula, Nusa Dua, Sanur etc. If you take the ferry across to Nusa Lembongan you might have more luck. We got some great trevally around Cheningan (spelling). Lots of sharks though (tigers).

Thanks for that - will have a look into those places. Shame, guess the place is just fished out by the locals - even the photos on the charter websites dont look that great - guess we are spolit in Oz!
