I have never experienced or seen damage to flathead that size. Must be some serious Tailor or lots of them.

G`day, its both, their serious & there`s lots of `em,i got this one ,it was only 2.5kg,iv`e seen over 6kg taken from the basin, the bloke who got the 6+kg specimen said they have to get them in fast before the others eat `em.

Hi Evil Nev,

Quality Tailor you caught there, wish they were consistently that good in the harbour, like those down south.

Congrats

That last flatty in those pics might have survived.

Iv'e caught a flatty in lake tyers missing his tail. Again, plenty of big tailor in tyers :D

caught a couple of "stumpy's" on lures, where the scales and skin have actually grown over the injury with 2 or 3 inches of the fishes tail section missing. they lose no swimming ability due to their snake like profile.

I've been up at Flat Rocks and seen tailor doing the same thing to herring, if a herring grabbed your mulie you would only get half a herring.

Nice pick up on the face. :D

As for Basin tailor, yep there are some crackers. I heard of a 10kg fish taken late last year when I was there in January. Haven't seen a pic of it, only word of mouth, but geez that must've been a cracker!

An example of a small St Georges basin tailor. Probably average for you blokes who can get them from Kalbarri but still decent.

Its a 3 inch Riptide Mullet - Rootbeer colour. We were chasing big flatties on the basin and it was all I had close when we found birds working a bait school from above and fish smashing them from below. Cranked it hard near the school of bait and then the tailor hit it at the boat when I stopped winding.
