Mate If it was Redfin you were catching Fisheries want you to Not throw them back as they are a pest, so don't feel too bad. congratulations on starting a very rewarding style of fishing and on your first fish, I think you'll find your life will soon be over Just weight till you pull a horse Bream. Come to think about it, any size bream is worth getting on a lure, good luck to ya mate

Oh yeah iv cought fish before but it was my first fish on a lure
even though they are not declared noxious, they are still around in huge numbers... even enough to be annoying when you are trying to catch other species. i dont think keeping a few for the dinner plate will do any harm, even if they had eggs in them!!

Since I usually like to take a couple of mid size pan fish for the plate when fishing for any species (obviously I don't keep certain species) , I absolutely love larger reddies that accidentally pop on by. Not only are Reddies good eating, but I feel absolutely no remorse in taking them for the plate and that means all the other species get lucky.I wouldn't feel two bad about egg bound redfin they breed like almost as prolifically as carp.
