When fellows fishermen rig up a two coloured atomic fat grub do you put the darker colour on the top? I was using the black and silver with black on top and couldnt get a hit, but nothing else was working that day either:)

Just interested in other ppl's findings

i usually just rig it the way i feel comfortable with and if the fish dont take it i usually change over.

I usually put the lighter coulour first as the darker colour acts as a shadow, and gets fish more interested.

Thanks luringbream and daniel I guess there is no harm in trying it both way, my reasoning I put the darker colour on top is to imatate the dark back and the light coloured stomach.

But when do fish listen to reason

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works guys, but I almost always rig the curl tail type grubs so the curl in the tail is on the same side of the hook as the point.

IMHO, if you rig the tail the other way, it will 'fold' over at the base of the jig and I think this hinders the action.

Also, if you're doing a straight retrieve with the tail rigged the opposite way to the hook, and a fish strikes at the tail movement, you've got less chance of hooking it.

Using this logic, you really don't have a choice as to which colour goes up - it depends on the curl of the tail;)

as per dave w i rig mine with the tail facing on a different angle to the way hook is set . because it can catch on it when you cast.

or get when it hits a snag.
