I am buying my first spool of braid tomorrow. What is the best knot to tie, as I have heard knots in nylon are different to knots in braid. How much mono leader should I have going down to my lure? Is there anything special I need to do to tie the mono leader to the braid?

good morning Minchy, when tying the mono onto braid one of the easiest knots to use is the double uni knot, you need to have more turns of the braid than you do in mono, if you can buy Geoff Wilson's book on knots that will help you a lot. Put out a call for someone in the Brisbane area to meet up on a fishing trip and learn first hand person to person... The length of the leader is debatable, I use about two metres of leader, usually 8lb. Stren Magnathin. Neville... Also, I think this site is linked with Breammaster's so have a look at www.fishnet.com.au there is a lot of info there....

I use the Albright, it takes a bit of getting used to but it's easy once you do :)
If you do a search of the forums on the subject you'll be inundated with responses - a lot of guys are passionate about their knots......... :D
Cheers,
A lot of blokes reckon that the double uni knot is the way to go and its is very easy to tie and strong enough. I prefer the Improved Albright, it is not a difficult knot at all and infact was one of the first knots I learnt. I prefer it because of the strength but more importantly (the way I make it) it has a smaller profile and runs thru the guides easier.
just my 2 bobs worth:D

I use the improved albright too. I'm constantly amazed how damn strong it is; I use 6 lb fireline, and 6 lb yama flouro, and will bend a jig hook on a snag before anything linewise fails - that's enough confidence for me !, the knot also has a low profile

Minchy,
If you live near Newmarket I could help you out and show you a few knots. I'm not that good, but can tie the ones the guys have been mentioning.
