Cheap Rod Options

Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent bream rod for under $100? I've just got a mate hooked on bream spinning and suggested he get a stella 66 but that's still a little out of his range. Or maybe I should tell him to get real job and save up.

Panger, the only thing that really comes to mind is maybe something from the Shakespeare range? I think they've got some usable rods in the $50-$80 range.

I bought a cheapie from AFD (Australian Fishing Distributors) for $25, (i think they retail for $44). It is called a Serengetti, rated at 2-4 kg, graphite comosite construction and I reckon it's a ripper.
It will throw 1/32 jigs all day, my best on it so far is a 44 cm bream and a 2.4 kg trevally.
Ok, it does'nt have Fugi running gear (Chineese stuff) and from a rodbuilders prospective it could use another guide (only has 5+tip) but it fishes well and is a top rod for anyone starting out.
Match it up with a Shimano JRX 2000 and a spool of Fireline and presto, complete outfit for under $100.

a good rod for abnout 50bucks is the synergy shakespeare im6 graphite single foot eyelets ans cork grips nice looking too i recomend it as im saving up for one too.

For around $100 you can get an Abu Morrum Braid series.I started with one of these and still use it when im playing in heavy timber. Has a great action with plenty of strength in the butt.

what about the procastor s series i picked up a 2 - 4 kg rod for $89 and i am sure u would be able to pick up a lighter rod in the series

Why don't you give Geoff a call at Breammaster in Inglewood? They have a great selection of rods purely designed to our beloved Bream.

Only problem with the breammaster rods is they like $200. I struggle to find the money for a lure these days.

My rod is a 10 year old jarvis walker shakespear rod the i got for free from the rottnest lost and found. Probably was worth about $20 brand new. It's got a bright orange tip and 4 eyelets. It's since had it's tip eyelet smashed off on the tracks going to Wedge island and was fixed up with a big blob of steel puddy. All plastic reel craddle with foam handles. THATS HOW POOR I AM! But it still works!

Alas, it's time is coming to an end. I'm looking for a new rod as well, something around $50-60 would be great. FATMAN, where can I see these AFD rods? They sound cheap...i mean good.

Thanks for all the suggestions! It's been very helpful. Hopefully there will be something in the list that my mate will be prepared to buy. Anything's got to be better than the heavy fibreglass thing he's using now.
