Whats wrong with shorebashing Mark? you don't need a boat to catch fish in either of those rivers, so get yourself down there and start casting mate, you might just suprise yourself with the results.;)

Why don't you just ask for a Nitro or Stratos boater with like say 200 horses on the back. They may even catch more fish. May even be able to donate you one of their lovely expensive graphite rods and a feather weight cool reel, possibly the latest on the market. I am sure they will have lots of HBs and SPs that they won't mind you snagging it up on the tree etc.

Good luck and hope you find your God-sent mentor! :D

Mark,

you'll find that most people around here know what they do from trial and error. Simply go out and start casting. Watch a few dvd's if u have to. but simply get out there and start flicking.

By all means ask plenty of questions cos there are plenty here to help.

The first time i got on a boat was over 12 months after i started lure fishing and most of the time i fish by myself as well.

Shore fish?

You gear is more than capable of catching bream.

What hardbodies do you have? What plastics do you have?

How often do you fish?

My suggestion is to get out there with what you have and give it a red hot go.:)

Maybe you can try a fishing charter? I'm sure they'll be more than happy to show you a few trips...;)

Just kidding, you should go to a lake, river, pond, bay, sea, etc and just keep chucking away with the lures you've got, or check out some of the SP / HB recommendations here. You'll get onto a bream eventually.

Remember, breaming was never meant to be easy.... took me 3 months of intensive castings and losing lures before I got my 1st bream :D

mark it sounds like you are just looking for the easy way out imo.

I was in a very similar position to yourself as i was also a bait fisherman but for different reasons had not wet a line in over 10 years.

I am now in a position where i can fish again and so i start doing some research and found out Bream fishing is now a totally new world where people catch Bream on plastic and use specialised equipment etc etc.

So i joined this site, struck up a relationship with the local tackle store, spent waaaay too much money (and continue to do so) :D and in conjunction with my mate who has barely fished at all in his life, we took that info and got out there and had a go!!!

The very first day we didn't catch a fish but certainly learnt a lot about the way to fish the lures but since then every day we have fished we have landed descent Bream (biggest was 32 cms to fork) as well as by catches like Whiting, Salmon and even Estuary Perch and are a lot more competent now than we started out but obviously still have a lot to learn.

We don't have a boat but do it the hard way by working banks and traipsing through bush trying to find spots to cast.

You don't need anyone to show you but you do need to read a lot, ask questions but most of all just get out there are do it!!!!!!

Wow. I think there were a few overly harsh responses here.
Mark the best way as people have already said is to get on the water. I only mastered plastics because I went out every day after work for weeks throwing plastics around. After a week I got onto my first fish. When I had my first fish they all seemed to start coming more and more often.

My biggest pointer would be to keep it simple. With SP's just cast it out let it hit the bottom(line will go limp) and then lift your rod tip about half a meter and then drop the tip back down. Allow enough time for the SP to hit the bottom take up the slack in the line and repeat. Only when you have caught your first few and start to get the hang of it should you start varying things.

With HB's cast the lure out a short distance and watch the action. Get an Idea of how slow you can get the lure swimming and take note. When you have an idea of how slow the lure can go cast it out and winding it in slowly. Same story here too, don't vary your retrieve until you catch a few fish. I used to fish with someone and he would watch me retrieve my HB's and I would be twitching the line here and there to entice the fish. He would try to do the same but you could tell he didn't have a feel for it and no fish were caught cast after cast. I would try to convince him to just wind it normally to start with. When he finally did decide to keep it simple he got his first fish.

Last bit of advice is that with lures you need to have at least a small idea of where the fish will be holding. Bait isn't such a problem because the fish will sniff it out. Do some reading about bream fishing and get a good idea of their habitat and feeding habits etc.

Get on the water

good advice justin

just keep it simple and you will get fish. all the areas that you would catch bream on bait you should be able to catch them on lures

yeah i found that after i caught my first bream on an sp it just became a lot easier. and when you do catch your first bream take note of the tide, location, water clarity, gear you use and after you catch a few fish start to crack a pattern.
