Hey everyone,
I just wanted to know whether or i would be worthwhile to target king george whiting on soft plastics in western port bay?. And if so what sort of plastics work well?.

Hey mate never been fishing for KG before but if they are anything like sand whiting they should go for the gulp sand worms. I like the long ones but I chop them in half (I am a cheap skate plus I figure more hook in the overall lure length) and I like the natural colour.

I've heard of a guy catching big king georges in wa on white poppers. So yeah i suppose soft plastics would work.

I've read elsewhere that they have been caught on sx40's as well.

The bloodworm would be a great sp to try imo.

Mate the Gulp Bloodworms are awesome for KG's especially the Camo ones and red ones. I have my KG spot on Garden Island that i use nothing but Gulp bloodworms and i come back with a dozen everytime i go. You can only fish there if you can get on the island, so the fish are usually all over 30cm as the place isn't fished out so the fish will nail anything, ive even caught them on poppers!! Anyway KG's love the gulp bloodworms mate, thats all i use when fishing for them.:):)

Mate i would check the limits for KG whiting before you post that sort of stuff. Its an 8 fish limit per person, taking a dozen is a tad illegal

My only concern in Western Port would be the current.

You'd want to fish as light as possible but with the current there it'll be interesting.

As for lures, cant go past the Gulp sandworms, i've also caught them on small Squidgy Wrigglers in Wasabi.

ah cool no worries then man, was hoping that was the case. I actually thought it was 8 per boat but a quick check on the regs showed it 8 per person 16 medium risk species mixed bag.

FWIW, kg's will take lures- ive caught them on hards too, but nothing beats a fresh squid leg

yer u here in QLD we catch plenty of whiting on plastics, mainly gulp sandworms or gulp frys.
and catching them on surface lures has boomed up here most being caught on lil ecogears and small R2S bubble pops.
