Hi everyone. My first post. Lets see how it goes.

I have been browsing these forums and i can see that there are some quite knowledgable individuals amongst you, especially with regards to fishing the Swan.
I myself have not fished the Swan since the days when my Dad used to take me and my brother down to Applecross Jetty to catch chopper tailor underlights. Most (all) of my fishing these days is from the beach or the rocks.

What i would like to know is what are some of the better places to fish for Bream in the Swan? Especially from Mt Henry Bridge to as far as Shelley Bridge.
I ride into work each day and follow the Freeway from Mt Henry into the City, and see plenty of people fishing from the structures (Canning Hwy always seems popular), and its about time i got amongst it.

One more thing, is there such a thing as a rod that retracts into itself so that it ends up as a short length stick that can be packed away into say a backpack? Does this kind of thing exist, or did i just imagine it up?

Thanks

Yea those retractable rods are telescopic rods, but they are really bad, well my opinion is anyway

And sorry I dont have much info about where to fish..I havent gone out in months

Now that te exams are over its gonna change though ;)

Welcome to the site Mick. I have seen some rods around that slide into itself and i think their called telesopic rods. Anyway i dont know about their performancebut im sure someone else would.
Cheers

As far as I'm concerned, the best telescopic rod on the market is one of the Epix series brought out by Okuma.

Yes, I know they sponsor me, but check one out and tell me I'm wrong - they are a million miles away from the 'Mega Mart' specials, and it's reflected in the price ($100 +).

Another option is to go for a 4 piece that comes in it's own carry case, such as one of the Heartlands (sorry, I can't remember the model number).

They are very nice little sticks, again at a price, and the action loss due to the extra ferrules is minimal - check them out :)

Yeah check out the Okuma tele spins, great rods if you need that sorta thing! Plenty of finnesse in them! Only thing I have seen compete is a high quality Shimano graphite jobby out of Japan, complete with SiCs  Dave - is it hardloys on the Okumas? Componentry looked decent when I checked em out. Normally that's what lets down a telescopic rod (other than the generally crap blanks).

Not sure mate - I know they're Fuji's and they look like Hardloys but I don't know, the action is pretty damn good for a telescopic rod though

Welcome to the site,
on the topic of telescopics all I can say is that I have had some great fishing with them from herring to mulloway. In the past I have gone for Daiwa rods and the blanks have always stood up, but as Chris says the componentry is worth examining. Anyway hope to see you out on the water:)

telescopic. thats it. i knew i didn't imagine it.

thanks for the replys everyone. i'll have to look in to getting a suitable rod in the very near future. I stopped under the canning bridge this morning and its fair to say that id have a tough time casting under there with any of my beach rods. Something a little more nimble is the go.
