Hello,
My spinning gear for plastics is a Shimano Backbone series 6'6" rod that I have modified by taking the hypalon grips of and fitting high grade cork.
This is matched with a Shimano Sahara 2000 spooled with Berkeley Fireline 4Lb and the leader is Berkeley Vanish 2LB
Baitcaster is a Steve Starling series rod with a cork pistol grip and a Shimano Cronarch spooled the same as the Sahara.
Could this be improved upon?
What would be the benefits and what recommendations would people suggest?
I don't mind spending the money as I love finesse fishing and 98% of my fishing is catch & release as I fish 7 days a week.
God I love this web site! I only discovered it the day before yesterday and its cutting into my fishing time:p :p
Good on ya all !!

Hi LakeConjolaFish,
I know what you mean by the site cutting into your fishing time :) :) Where do you mainly fish?
Nice setup by the way but another question do you really use 2lb leader because around here it would suicidal :)

my two setups that i use the most are a shimano stella 6,6 rod with a stradic 1000 spooled with green fireline,4 or 6 lb vanish leader or stren magnathin.
my baitcaster is a steve starling sig series with a calcutta 100 spooled with 10lb fireline and 12lb leader it gets used mainly when iam fishing for flatties or bass.

Yep I fish 2lb with the Vanish but I have only recently purchased it.
I haven't caught a bream yet, but have caught and released 4 flatties just over legal size and the vanish took a beating but held up.

The lowest I have gone down to is 6lb leader but a 32cm made it feel borderline. Any bigger or harder fighting fish would have done me. I guess in clear water your drag could be set lightly but I will stick to 8lb fluro for now :) :)

Nice setup, but does the 2lb stuff ever break, i was thinking of goin down to 2 but i would probably have to use a net.

Yes I do get the occassional bust off but that doesn't really phase me ( although I do worry about the fish, but from everything I've read they seem to survive and throw the hook).
I don't keep many fish for the table at all, so using 2lb lets me enjoy fighting the fish more. And using the thinner line I get many more strikes.

Hi LakeConjolafish,
How did you change the grip to cork? Where do you get the cork replacements from?

That cork I got from Deans bait & tackle at Windang in Wollongong, but any good tackle store should stock it (more than likely under the counter & not on show) or would be able to get it in for you, just make sure it's FINE grade as their is a lot of inferior grades of cork sold.

I think that ur choice in reels and rods are good. The Spin set up is awesome, but i recommend a 1000 sized reel instead of a 200. Your Baitcaster set up is also good. I think that your baitcaster set up is good too. Just a question, is it a Bantam? or a new one?
Cheers
