This might be a stupid idea, but would circle hook jigs work well on sp's for catching bream on the drop? For instance when you can see the fish attacking, you could let the breamski grab hold and this action alone might turn the point into the lip???? Jus wonderin, (since I cant go fishin ):(

G'day mate,
Yeah I spose I'd have to make my own jigs to get the little hooks, I've used them also bait fishing (droppers for yellowbelly) havent seen many smaller sizes..... Ill head down to the tackle shop on the weekend.

I'm pretty sure i've seen ready-made circle hook jigs in the bream master store (or another one here) maybe GeoffP could shed some light?
Not that it helps you much being over east RD ;)

I suspect that they would work as you describe, they're my number one live-bait hook - but i'm completely crap at using soft plastics :D

Dont get circle hooks cofused with round hooks.

I have made up a few jigs with the long shank fly cirlces but the gauge s a little big and at certain speeds it spins. Have also adapted a few aberdens into circles as well. the down side as yet I haven't used them enough to say if they work or not. I had the same thoughts as you as with many scented plastics (and occasionally un) the bream pick them up un run with them like a bait. Unfortunately the only times I've used them so far has been chasing shutdown bass and am yet to get bumped. Give you more as soon As I can. Could take a while though I've just cut the console out of my boat and it might take upto three weeks to get it bsck in the water ith work and all. I still think they will work as when using them with flies the hook up rate is comparable on bigger fish like barra, so if the bream are active I recon they would be a goer. I also use a spagetii rod to limit the chance of ripping the jig out without a set. They are also a heap more snag less than your standard jigs.

I have tried some small circle hooks with plastics & had mixed success. The thing with circle hooks is they work best when there is nothing clogging up the gape & bend of the hook so they can roll in properly. Plastics apart from being very hard to feed onto the hook clog the gape enough you only hook up 50% of the time. Having said that the fish I did hook weren't going to be dropped at all ;) but you had to let them chew on the plastic forever until they had taken it right down then swam off. It was interesting thing to play around with though & if nothing else it showed just how long a bream will munch on a plastic before rejecting it if he can't feel any resistance etc
