If we remember back to last december team 'Koolfishing' smashed the previous 5 bag South Australian record... (with a 5/5 4.88kg) and 5 teams caught bags over 3.5kg on the second day so the fishing is hot at that time of year, just a pity so is the weather... get those livewells primed lads...
Yee haaa....

The official write-up:
With water temperature rising, overcast conditions and light winds prevailing, competitors were expecting the resident fish population to turn it on for anglers at the December 2008 SABT Classic, and anglers weren’t disappointed!
24 teams coming as far afield as NT, NSW and Vic joined our local SA anglers for their share of cash and prizes at this event, in addition to our first female entrant welcomed for this series.
Day one saw 10 of the competing 24 teams present full bags of 5 fish for weighing, with a total of 82 fish being presented and local team Sign FX (Deer/Braund) leading the way with a healthy 3.82kg bag and also the Big Bream of day one at 1.22kg.
The “Dash for Cash” innovation introduced this year was taken at 9.30am on day one by team Jarvis Marine (Kelsey/Johnson) who decided to sacrifice a healthy 29cm fish from their daily bag in exchange for the $250 prizemoney on offer upon early weighing and releasing of this fish.
Day two provided further action for anglers in what was set to be a close race between teams for the major prizes on offer.
By the close of proceedings 140 quality fish had been presented for weighing over the course of the weekend, with a combined total weight of 82.73kg, and an average weight of 590g.
Finishing on 10 fish at 7.03kg with another full bag of 5 fish presented on day two, Team Sign FX (Deer/Braund) held their lead from day one by a margin of 890 grams over Second place getters, Team Pacific Marine/Adelaide Bait & Tackle (Fahill/Hastwell) who also presented full bags on both days of the event to finish with a healthy 10 at 6.14kg.
Team Sign FX also retained the Big Bream Award with their 1.22kg fish from day one.
Being interviewed after the event Deer/Braund explained that they struggled early and had to move around frequently, as fish were spread throughout the system rather than schooled in areas.
Team Sign FX used mainly hardbody lures on day one, including X-Ray vibes which were responsible for the capture of the 1.22kg Big Bream, yet found on day two the fish accepted soft plastics more readily with Gulp Shrimp (Banana Prawn and Pepper Prawn) being the preferred choice.
Deer/Braund fished a combination of outfits (Okuma/Shimano/Daiwa) using 3lb Crystal Fireline through to 6lb Berkley Vanish leader and 6lb TD Sensor through 6-8lb Berkley Vanish.
Runners up Team Pacific Marine/Adelaide Bait & Tackle (Fahill/Hastwell) noted that weather conditions were good, but they also had to work for fish with fish being spread throughout the system.
Fahill/Hastwell upgraded 6-7 times to finish with their bag (10/6.14kg) and their tactics included starting at the top end of the system while waiting for water levels to rise, allowing them to fish preferred shallow locations downstream.
Team Pacific Marine/Adelaide Bait & Tackle fished 15lb Saltiga Surf and XPL 8lb braid through to Stealth leaders ranging from 6lb through to 20lb.
Outfits used included Daiwa Advantage, Steez and Sol Combinations, in addition to a custom Samurai and even a very cheap off the shelf rod laughingly known as “Ryan’s Wobblestick” which was responsible for many captures, proving that inexpensive tackle also catches fish!
Fishing shallow waters Fahill/Hastwell preferred Bassday Kangoku Shads, and for deeper waters soft plastics were utilised with Gulp Turtlebacks (Pumpkinseed and Watermelon) responsible for quality captures.
December in Adelaide’s Port River once again provides good quality fish throughout the system for all anglers, and organisers would like to welcome all interested anglers back for the 2009 series of SABT Classic events.
