Hi Guys
Wanting to purchase an electric motor for my 3.9 metre tinny. What size would be a good match. It would be used mainly in salt water. Are there any brands I should steer clear of?
Thanks.

I have a 46LB Motorguide on my 3.75 goes great, good size for that size boat, next size is 54LB, but you can never have enough power:D
In motorguide the 54lb is only $100 more so its up to you.

Gavin,
If you can afford it I would get the larger of the electric motors. In the Minn Kota they are 55lb thrust.
Worth having the extra juice.

55lb thrust or more IMO. I've got a 3.75 and when the wind hits 20kn+ I'd rather a bigger electric than the 55 Riptide I've got!
Just to add to your confusion :D , I have a 36lb transom mount Mercury Thruster on my 3.75 Dart and I have found it great.
I reckon if the wind gets bad enough for it to struggle it's going to be hopeless out there anyway - casting, chop, etc etc
Depends Ozy. There have been times when we needed it up some rivers in high winds and it does help on the flats. I would have been lost at Walpole this weekend without a 55lb or greater.
