I had to re-shoot this lot of pics because the last ones just didn't do them justice.
The new Shads imported from the states by Paul Kneller look and feel like the real thing, tasty little morsals clone true to life bait fish imitations.
There are 10 different patterns:

Guys I recommend at least a 1/16th oz jighead with these as they are quite a tough plastic and need some definate movement and/or extra weight to get the tail moving. I'd say a 1/8th would be ideal.

They come in 2'' and according to Paul Kneller in referance to what Chris was saying, you need to start your jig just under the head. Apparently this gives them a more life-like action.

G'day Guys.
Thanks for the responce on the introduction of Illusion soft plastics to Aussie Breamer's. I have been "Product testing" for the past few weeks and the Bream on the Clarence have given them a big thumbs up (especially the Glass patterns. See one of the victims here abouts) I am not quite sure what Chris seems to have a problem with requiring the weight he said he needed to make them swim? I use a 1/16th oz Nitro DAS head for most of my fishing and find these great. Having said that I do believe all shad style plastics do benifet from using a jig head that has most of its weight towards the bottom of the head and behind the towpoint, jig heads such as the Nitro Bream bullets and Gamakatsu "Standing" type heads. The water pressure that is created from the tail of any shad if moved through the water at pace will naturally cause them to want to rotate if the weight bias is not towards the bottom. Brad from the Compleat Angler in Melbourne has had great success this past week fishing them on the flighty Docklands Bream using jig heads down to 1/32 th oz.
One trick to try if you only have ball style jig heads is to enter the hook point a little lower in the front of the bait and bring the hook up on an angle. I have been fishing the 2" Shads using a method I find deadly on our Bream over here. I simply our allow them to sink to a desired depth and then smartly lift the rod and drop throwing slack back at the lure, most takes come on the drop. Use the 2" Shad in the "Glass patterns" when the fish are feeding on Jelly Prawns and hang on! I have found the solid colours better when the tide is running hard and the water is more discoloured and you need an attractor style pattern. I have been averaging between 20 to 30 Bream a session (4 to 5 hours) using them over the past few weeks but the Clarence is fishing incredibly well for Bream over the past month or so. I will organise with Warren to do some give aways over the next few weeks. Cheers Guys. Paul

With the 2" Illusion shads I have definitely found that the lighter the jighead the better the action. 1/28 or 1 gram heads create the best action especially on slow retrieves. Larger heads cause the tail to stop fluttering. Alot of people will think that such a light head will cause it to sink to slowly but the Illusion shads are really heavy and dont require any more weight. Ive been fishing them for a couple of weeks now and theyv e been great with good captures of bream, silver trevally, salmon, small jews and even the odd calamari has shown a distinct liking for them. Golden shiner and baby bass have been the most successful around Melbourne at present.

G'day matty.
I can't say I have seen a jig head with the point facing down? I think everyone would fish all there plastics with the hook point facing up, I am sure you would end up with a lot of snagged lures otherwise. I have seen a Japanese jig head (Fina I think?) that had a treble on the bottom but that is the only one I have ever seen like that. Maybe someone else has seen other ways of rigging them.

Those of you having consistent success with your softies - how about a photo of the rigged softie so others can see jig size and placement. I have been doing well on flatties and redfin, but marginal on bream.
Cheers
Dave
