An Amusing Tale; and a question?

Hey Guys,
I still am stoked over this tale!!:p
Richo, Craig Stevens and myself went for a wild session on Saturday morning and nailed easily our bag limmit's plus, over a few hours on the Swan.
I had been getting some good quality fish not to mention being absolutely smoked/busted off 3 times in two days (twice in this particular session:eek: ).
We all concluded that the snag we were fishing had seen enough action not to mention that our tummy's were screaming for food, so we went (down) the river to get some Macca's.
We went up river again and found that the river wasn't producing as well as our favourite snag so we went back. We arrived, dropped the Kota and started fishing then Craig snagged a tree, Richo thought he might as well get a cast into the area as we were going to spook what ever was in there as soon as we got craig's lure and he snagged up aswell.
So we Kota in there to retrieve the lures and I was totally confused there was 3 lures in the one spot, my Deception Palemon was floating next to there lures which I had lost during an earlier smoking. Breamzilla had managed to bust me off and dislodge my lure which I found 3 hours later, Is that Luck or spooky. Ask Richo and Craig they will verify my story, every leaf looked like the other oar-gee I lost after that;).

Which loop's do every one use for hard bodies?, I use what I think is called the rapala loop knot i havn't been twisting it enough before knotting it, hence the bust off's.

sorry geoff i dont know the name of the knot but it goes like this
1. tie a granny knot in the mono but dont pull it tight
2. thread the end through the eye of the lure
3. the end of the line goes back through the granny knot
4. then wrap the end around the leader main line about 4-5 times depending on the thickness of the leader
5. thread the end back through the middle of the granny knot moisten and then pull on the tag end the lure and the main leader line to tighten

does this sound familiar?? a fishing guide showed me it when we went on a holiday up north, he uses it all the time for attaching his lures and jigs
its quite and easy knot, not so easy to explain though

another quick question: where do you launch you boat from when fishing the upper reaches of the swan??

G'day Evan,
I launch all over the place it's not really feasible to give you a general location, look in the road map book or a swan chart they are all over the place.
The knot I use is the one you described, I just was getting Lazy on the amont of twist's which is why I have lost two lures and two awsome fish :( :( :( .
I think the twists are what allows the Knot to hold and not snap, I found out the hard way :( :(

yeah i have noticed that too with that knot i think the more wraps that you do the better

Gentlemen, I'd have called that knot "Lefties Perfection Loop", but dont know for sure if thats right.

I use the uni knot or the perfection loop.

i use the 7 turn uni knot. so easy to tie in the wind, darkness, hungover or all 3 :D

it does close up during a fight with a fish but its easy enough to reopen or retie.

never needed to use any other

the knot is called a lure knot. i prefure the uni myself easy to tie ,dark, light ,drunk or in rough water.:o

According to Geoff Wilson its called a Homer Rhode Loop except he finishes it with a 2/3rds Centauri knot and knot 4 or 5 twists.

there is a lot of animated knots shown on the sportfish.com.au (sportfish.com) sit very good to learn even if you forget like i do before every time igo fihing.:o

What leader are you using Geoff?

I have been using Berkley Vanish and i have come to find lately that it just does not like to be tied in any kind of knot at all, so it is possible that it is not you knot tying skills at all it may be your leader choice.

Just a matter of a bad experience on my part, it may not apply in your case at all.
