I've got a 40hp 2 stroke on a 4 metre Hornet with a 40 litre tank and have not emptied it in one day yet. I use as little as 10 litres some days.

How much running around is that?

I did a Walpole weekend with a run up the Frankland and the Deep Rivers and I'm still on full with the Optimax.

Bear, alot of our running around down here transitting in 5 knot zones (at least when fishing the Yarra/Nong/Docks) so not very efficient for a boat such as Brads,
(hence the overwhelming desire to "floor it" everywhere):p

If your after economy go the Honda 4strokes. We have a 40hp on a Savage Jabiru 430 tournament. The fuel tank is only a 20 litre tank, and on a good day of floating round, ill be lucky to use less than half a tank.
We would probably cover at least 30kms of water if not more

That is also going at 5 knots for most of the way.

Can agree 50 Hp 4 stroke Honda uses as litte as 15-20 litres in a day runing around

Last 2 Classics I used 25l each round with a 25. 8 knots is a killer for my consumption but am looking at a prop swap when i get off my backside.

I guess that would be the benefits of a four stroke. That is pretty awesome economy really.

My last trip we did 94 km to 33l, sitting 4700/ 5100rpm. I have a tomcat with a 90 optimax.

Going pretty hard, I can get about 180klms out of 100l of premium unleaded in the Ally - 2.5l 200 Merc 2 stroke..................

I've never really run her flat knacker just to burn 100l of juice and see how far I get (I'd like to  ).

If I hovered 4000 - 45000 rpm (45mph or so) I reckon I could do 250k's easy.

The Smartcraft gauges will be hooked up shortly, then I'll be able to tell exactly how much juice I use.

I did 2 trips from my house to Mandurah mouth (Comet Bay), then next morning flew up to Murray mouth (31 knots) and upstream (river speeds) to an MBA field day which took us just shy of Pinjarra. On the way home we changed tanks at Murray mouth. Totalled a little over 50km but my boat isn't economical at river speeds as it is trying to push onto the plane.
Averaged roughly .5 litre per kilometer with Tohatsu TLDI 50 (DFI 2 stroke) at high and low speeds on a 1648 Tracker Grizzly

got 50hp honda one mine. in a "normal" trip on the swan i'll use about 10L but always more if i go up river with a lot of 8 & 5 knt work.

last trip on the swan i covered the water from coode st down to blackwall reach via SOPYC and back + some running around in freshie bay. yet to fill up again but i'm expecting about 10 -12L

cheep as chips i reckon & the new prop i just picked up should make it a bit better as well.

Unfotunatley I have 2 speeds:

1 - idle
2 - flat out :)

150 Honda 4 stroke, 90 litre tank, and not a 100% speed demon hull. Not sure on the distances but I generally can go from Maylands to Blackwall to Freshwater to Mount Henry bridge and back to Maylands at full noise for less than half a tank. Depending on conditions and such. I will get out google pedometer and measure it out ;) I am still under prop'd so not sure if getting a new prop will add or detract from fuel consumption.

hmmm - just scaled where i traveled on the swan last time out on google earth and it came up to 38km give or take.

surprised me a bit as i did not think i covered that much ground. very curious to see how much fuel it takes to fill the boat again.

What prop did you end up getting Brad?

stevo - have picked up an ali solas 11.6 x 11p same dia as my old one but no longer the high surface area version and 1º less pitch.

according to the theory it should give me about 800 to 1000 more rmp at wot and while helping ease my fat arse out of the water a bit quicker.:p

according to michael (just props) they have a new 4 blade design on the way as well which should be very interesting for "our size of motor". i know yatesy swears by the 4 blade he put on his tracker.

Just did Port Stephens to Hunters Hill in Sydney, About 120nm with twin 250 Etecs in 2hour 47min with a top of 47kn out at sea fully loaded and only used a tad over 300lt, NOT even half a tank!

At 5000rpm (42kn)I get about 110lt/h on twins!
At 3800rpm, fast cruze, (36kn) I get 78lt/h

Last weekend drove my Grizzly Bear (16.5' punt) with 50hp Tohatsu TLDI from Mandurah to Bunbury punching a light SW swell averaging 17 knots about 4,200rpm, with some wide open throttle goofing off. It was just under 50 nautical miles and used 22 litres. So a little less than 1/2 litre per NM. It was cheaper than driving my 80 series cruiser down there! And much more fun:D

On my 12ft v-punt with a Mercury 15 super i can travel 10nm and use only 15 litres and like Shane i only know two speeds. ;)

I have a 115 Etec on an SX170 Skeeter. I have used as little as 7 litres when fishing a comp on the Nerang one up mainly canal work on the electric, but get through about 26 - 30 litres in a normal comp two up fully loaded and with a full live well. So far I am extremely pleased with the ecionomy of the 115 Etec, its comparable to my old 90 TLDI pushing a stessl Bass Boss. I generally do a mix of six knot zones, 5000rpm bursts and general cruising about looking for likely spots to fish.

I have a topender 455, 60hp 4strk yammie. I average 10-15lt per trip. I have calculated that the 60lt tank will get me around 250km on the water at flat out pace :D Am yet to try it - long way for me in 1 day!

I run 90hp Optimax on a nitro 640 i use about 19.5 litres per hour at about 5000 rpms. and 25 litres per hour at full revs.

An average day i use around 30 litres running about 60km of water or so. Thats usually flat out everywher though.

Optis when driven sparingly sip the fuel.
