G'day folks,
I have just built a new Sabre IC602 high modulus graphite rod up for bream spinning and flicking for the missus. It is a 2-3kg class rod basically that is extremely sensitive and 6 feet long.
My budget will allow for between 100 and 200 bucks for the reel.
My preference is for a reel with about 150 yards capacity of 4lb mono. (about the size of a shimano aerocast 1010)
My question is however what reel to put on the rod??
What reel would each of you prefer to buy for those dollars??
Tony.

I bought a Banax SI-600 for around $130 bucks, which is nice and light and quite a nice outfit. I also fish a stradic and I can't honestly tell the differance. I get nice long cast's out of it and it is good at close range stuff aswell, I reckon they are well worth the money and a good quality outfit.
Have a look at them

I'm a huuuuge Okuma fan - the smallest size you'll find is the Avenger 15 or, for a better reel, the Epix 20.
I run them both for Bream and love 'em to bits:D The five year warranty is a bonus;)
You should be able to get the Avenger for less than $100, and the Epix for around $150 - there is also a new, top of the line, model (the Inspira?) coming out as well.
I don't know wether they are small enough for your needs, but check them out if you can - you will be impressed:)

I am running an okuma epix at tha moment, good reel, smooth and all but i think i will be using my warranty soon as i am starting to get some corrosion near the bail arm, but the warranty will cover it and what can you expect for just over $100.
My new choice if i was buyin a reel would be a Shimano Biomaster 1000. Hafta order them from japan but they have all the new technology oil injection etc.
Must admit Dave, I love the Okumas as well.
Just recently bought the FA30 and love it.

Welcome back Bear, hope you had a nice holiday:D
I did the annual strip and clean of my reels today, I regularly rinse the Okuma's under fresh water after being in salt.....
As I took all the line off to swap it end-to-end (doubles the life of Fireline;) ) I noticed a build up of crusted on salt under the rim (of the Epix) - it was a bugger to get off:(
I'm going to put a post up about maintenence, but in future I'll be really soaking it - just hope it doesn't wreck the drag.
I hope the condition is not just particular to the Okuma Epix, my Avenger was O.K.
Cheers,
Had a ball Dave.
Just did the clean myself.
Some of the better tailor fishing I've had in a long while.
Pics to follow when I get my act together.

Gday,
Don't forget to take a good look at the daiwa range. They have several reels that are ideal for bream spinning. For that rod you'd want the 1500 or 2000 size. I've tried the new hardbody Daiwa Kastor and it is a decent reel. The entire hardbody range would be worth your while looking at,
Caprice - 3BB and 1RB, retails for around $100
Kastor - 5BB and 1 RB, retails for around $140
Laguna - Top of the hardbody range, 7BB and 1RB, retails around $180
A reel that stacks of people use is a Daiwa Regal Z, but they have been replaced by the hardbodyz. They would be around $110 and would also be worth a look too if u can get one.
And if your not into Daiwa, another reel that deserves a mention is the Shimano Stradic, although a little out of your budget, it still might be worth a look.
Cheers
