View Full Version : polycraft hulls
hi guys
has anyone got one or heard any reviews about polycraft boats?? from what i gather they make a 4.1m v nose punt that looks similar to a hornet as well as some 4.55 center console that would be great for breamin etc. they are light weight and pretty cheap too.
does anyone know who the WA dealer is
any info would be great
Cheers
Evan

Hey Evan, I haven't heard of that one at all, where did you get the pic from, I would like to see some stuff about them//
nifty
i got onto them by searching for boats on boat point (boatpoint.ninemsn.com.au). i also found a dealer that has them in vic http://www.goldenseal.com.au/
i went on a fishing trip up north that used them a couple of years back. they used 21ft ones and they were really light and went quite quick with just a 50hp on the back. they are made of plastic that is indestructable- we just bounced of rocks oysters etc up north - so im thinking that they would be quite effective in and around the snags fishing for bream and the like
cheap as chips as well- some place in qld is selling the v nose punt for $2800 just for the hull brand new. i wouldnt mind checking out the 4.55m one that can be either side or center console. think that they are about $3500 plus the console itself (hull only).
i need to find a dealer that has them in perth though- there is a dealer in mandurah that sells them but i dont think that the breamin fraternity (let alone warren) would want me posting up their name- no prizes for guessing who!!!!
if you find any more info on them let me know

We got our 30hp yamaha from Access marine for $2900. Pretty good price. You might want to check them out, if they still have any left at that price

Hi
There was one green Polycraft BREAM boat at the Gold Coast Comp last weekend. It looked good.
I have had one as a hire boat with 15hp and 2 kids. Iwas very comfortable and stable - but I am no expert.
I believe teh green competition boat was in the hands of Jason Medcalf - a guide from Bundaberg where I seem to recall Polycraft are manufactured.
Does anyone have his advice yet? Woudl you like me to chase up details? ( how he set up and what he woudl do differently next time etc)
Let me know
Gary
green is an interesting colour rod - certainly not my first choice but as he said he calls it kermet
jason said that he is doing an article in QFM on the boats, which would be great to read, but Gary if you could get any more info out of him that would be great
thanks
Ev
Evan,
We are also planning to do some water trials with Rod for DohDohDoh.
We also have something planned for Spring for Breamers so watch this space.
I just called Polycraft to find out more.
It seems that:
- there is no particular expertise in fiting these out as Bream comp boats within the company (eg Jason did his own mods)
- they sponsor 4 people in Australia - 2 in qld and 2 in NSW. Jason was the first and 2 are only being delivered this week. It seems that these experienced anglers all have their own ideas on fitouts So I would be keen to see what they come up with and learn before I actually design mine
- the green colour is a corporate one off ( they bought one large batch of the colour but have some left if you want it)
- thanks to steve at Polycraft - 1800 336 603

Did he just hack into the polyethylene in the bow to make the livewells? I guess if livewells aren't done professonally by the blokes who make / distribute them then neither are rod lockers, custom storage lockers etc....?

The front storage areas under the hatches are sealed with a drain in them - it's a simple matter to plumb an inlet hose from a pump and / or put a recirculating system in as well.
Being 'moulded', factory variations in the basic hull are limited, but only to your imagination.
At 4.1m long, there are options for rod storage, but if you want a dedicated locker, you'd have to add it yourself. Personally I think this is ideal as I'd much rather fit a boat out to my exact needs, than have a company decide what's good for me ;)
There's a pic of the layout of Jasons livewells below, the hatches have been split by the owner :)
Cheers,
I had some advice from Jason - the owner of Kermit
He lives in Bundaberg where Polycraft manufacture. He spent some time testing before he was convinced to move over from aluminium. He runs an estuary charter business - so 6 months charter = years of amatuer usage.
Jason did all the mods himself, as there are not all the expert boatfitters / services required in Bundaberg
The most intersting news is that he has written up his fitout as an article to be published in next month's Qld Fishing Monthly.
This should come out about 29 /30 June. If you cannot get a copy in WA then just let me know your addrress and I will send you a copy.
(then you will owe me a drink when I am in WA !)
Again: there are another 3 boats being fitted out over the next weeks by experienced competitors - so after that we should have a great deal of expertise applied giving us some clever ideas.
Gary
QFM July hits the stands on Friday
I have my copy now and there is a 2 page article on how Jason Medcalf has fitted out his Polycraft as a Tournament boat.
Seems a real " honest" read . He has some interesting ideas and photographs.
If you would like a copy ( article or magazine) send me an email with your postal address.
cheers
