Dan. The softies you have a fine, try to get a stock up of muscadine, motor oil, and pumpkinseed sliders, also have a look at the ecogear softies, keep the size to about the 2inch ones to start with, have a good look at the online store and you can always ask people like Geof p, bear, Ravin etc. read some of the past post re. colours and types to get a better idea. I like the sliders as well. I've caught fish on atomics, but I don't have the confidence in them as I do with smaller profile single tails. I've had at least a couple sessions where I've not been able to get fish with the atomic and then use a smaller plastic and get hit straight away, only to go back to the atomic later on and no hits again. I know the atomics work fine but I've got it wired in my brain from these couple experiences. Now I'm trying to force myself to fish with bigger plastics to prove they do work, and build up some confidence with them. They just gotta work, other guys win comps with them.

my fave is a two inch motor oil single tail... has red flecks. looks great with sun shinin off it. accounted for most my fish in the brisbane area. they unfortunatly do not sell it online here. ???cheapest sp i have too 10 bucks for 50 lures!

Just something you guys may be interested in if you've got the opportunity.

Next time you're fishing, grab a few different coloured plastics and hold them up so the Sun shines through them - you'll be surprised at how similar some look, and how different the colour is in others. A Brown Crawdad Atomic looks very similar to an Amber, for instance, and a Bloodworm Squidgie Wriggler looks almost a clear yellow / pink.

Makes you think about how they look in the water from underneath with the Sun shining down ;)

Cheers,

Dave W,
interesting point. Maybe we should be considering using different colour selections when fishing out in the sun as compared to in shade/cloud cover.

It is suprising how some bright, direct sun can really affect the way soft plastics look, last Sunday while getting some excercise (but no fish) along the banks of the Anglesea River I was using an Atomic Fat Grub in the Pumpkinseed/Red fleck colour, occasionally I would see tiny, brilliant, scintillating flashes from the red mirror flecks as the lure came back close to me in the shallows, yet before that I would have said these were some of the dullest grubs I'd seen.

Yup I've noticed the same thing with those pumpkinseed atomics.

I got some of those cheap Kokoda K grubs. They looked a fairly drab green out of the water. Once I put them in the water they glowed fluro green. I wasn't impressed. Started trying to change the colours on them now.

I don't think there is such a thing as the best plastic/s. I think it relates to something mentioned earlier.

CONFIDENCE

ie confidence in that colour means you work the lure properly and mix up you retrieves until you find the right one rather than work the lure the same until you find the right colour.

80 -90 % method 10-20% colour.

Mind you some lures action is just all wrong

Cheers

Awesome placcy!

My favourite for sure! <-- see bream in av. :D

Haven't had much luck with the bass minnows on the bream, I've just got a lot more confidence with the 2" grubs.. Maybe my action is more suited to the grubs
