View Full Version : New Dinghy prices
Rusty

Hi everyone.
I work overseas and am coming home in a month and am looking at getting a new dinghy. I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some prices of packages around the 3.85-4 mtr range with a suitable outboard on the back. I live in perth and am looking for new or good secoundhand boats. Any info would be appriciated because where I am in africa it is hard to get in touch with dealers and I want to have my mind made up before I get home so I don't waste my 1 month break looking around at yards.
Thanks again!!

It depends on what you want to use it for and what you budget is. Bear (Sean Forward) is probably a good guy to talk to but he is away this weekend (as quite a few guy's) fishing a comp. I'm sure they will pick up this thread when they get back into it on Monday. Aside that just send Bear a PM!
Sorry I can't be of more help...but I don't own a boat yet and I don't want to give you wrong info...best to talk with someone who knows a bit more.
The other thing to do is have a look through the "Hulls" section of the forum board to get an idea what these guy's have and are using!

I am looking at trying to get away with a boat for under $10000. I really dont have any preference to what make it is as long as it one of the deep-v range with plenty of free board. It is going to be an all purpose boat fishing in the river and around perth and trips up to steep point and coral bay. So as long as it is a good strong boat and handles abit of rough water it will serve me well.

I'll get the email for Mark at Millard Marine Rusty. They are co-major sponsor of the WA series and have been doing heaps of fantastic deals for the guys in the comps. I've heard of guys shopping around in Perth and ringing Millard with their best price and saving another $1000.
I'll post it here for you and anyone else who would like to get some info by email.
Warren.
Rusty, with the requirements you specified in mind, I recommend you have a look at the stessco range of boats at boat city in Charles St North Perth. They will fit into your price range, come fully fitted with floors and casting platforms (if you buy one of the RV models) , and are built heavier (3mm bottom sheet) than the standard hulls of this size.
I must admit to being biased here because I am a proud owner of one of these rigs (a 4.1m RV Catcher model). I have had mine for over 2 years now and have fished everywhere from shark bay to Walpole in it and it performs admirably. Obviously such a small boat is not going to take you to Rottnest, but as long as you keep an eye on the weather you can fish the inshore reefs quite easily.
The stessl stinger and angler range of boats that Bear is associated with are also worth a look, although I think they will be above your price range (the smaller anglers may just fit).
Cheers
James.
Hey Rusty,
I worked in Tanzania a few years ago and know what you mean by not being able to get in touch with anybody let alone boat dealers. Some good fishin though if you can get away from the densly populated areas. Tilapia and nile perch were my catches.
www.boatpiont.com.au Millards have some boats in here too.

Mark Brown at Millard Marine will be happy to email some details to you. His is out for about 2 hours, but will check his email as soonas he returns.
mmillard@bigpond.net.au
You may be surprised when boats which are over ten grand suddenly fall into your price range considering the fantastic deals they have been doing. Just remember to point out you are involved in the Bream sportsfishing when you email him.
One of the guys forgot to mention this but still got a better price than anyone quoted him in Perth. When he mentioned the Bream fishing afterwards they turned around and knocked another $700 off the price. And he had alrady indicated he would buy the boat before this.
That's support for you.
Warren.

Russ Hi
Yeah I am working in Tanz at Bulyanhulu at the moment but have worked at Geita Gold so when I was there I fished Lake Victoria quite a few times and caught DohDohDohDoh loads of Nile Perch while dodging the Hippos. Did alright to when I stayed on robondo island from the shore to using rapala cd18's. sorry to get off the subject but getting a bit carried away dreaming of fishing on night shift.
Thanks for the info.

Habari za kazi.
Cool! I drilled some of the exploration at bulyanhulu for ashanti gold and drilled a blast pattern for the mill site just out of geita (best pineapples in the world).
Castle beer tastes great over there but when you get back to Oz it tastes like $%^&*.

I agree with you there buddy. That reminds me I have an hour to go and then it is time for them $1 beers to start flowing. I think they taste better here because they are so cheap. I work for SGS Analabs so we probily did the samples for you.

Rusty,
Everyone seems to be pushing different boat people. I bought mine from Millards and saved $1000 of the price of a 2nd hand one. Mark is a great bloke.
What I would suggest perhaps is to look at www.boatsonline.com.au
Theres always a few there and it will give you a good indication whats about.
Just FYI you can get a pretty decked out Quintrex 400 Widebody for about 8500 painted and im sure Millards will do even better. I think you might even be able to get the 400 Hornet Trophy for that price :)
Rusty,
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you.
If you're interested in checking out the Stessls, give Shane at Dinghy world a call on 9367 6555. Im the size you're thinking of, I would be looking at the Edgetrackers. They come in a 3.85m and 4.25m. There are also the Magnums which are by basically the same firm. The guys will also do custom fit-outs as well if you're interested.
They are also a Minn Kota dealer and very cheap.
If you're after something a bit bigger, I have the Angler which is now up for sale. 4.65m around the 20 mark. Probably a bit too much, but worth a look.
Take your time and have a look at what the guys have done, I'm more than willing to take you out and show you the way I have the wells made and I'm sure a few of the other guys would as well.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop me a PM.
HTH.
Bear any idea what the Magnum's are worth.

G`Day Rusty,
I got a look at a 4.0m Hornet one of the lads picked up from millard marine last week, really did look awesome, and he got it for around $9200 with a 30h on it. They have really been doing some good deals for the lads, hopefully myself included when I go down for a look.
cheers

Daws,
Im led to believe they are really well priced, $13,000 to $15,000 mark and pretty much each idividual option is priced seperatly.
Thanks Richo
Still tossing up whether to customize the boat i've got or trade to something already done depending on the dollars.

Davo I know your reading this, chime in son - you have more info than me mate........
The magnums start at $13850 for the 3.95 and $16745 for the 4.4 model, they have a good range of options available to add to them as Richo pointed out.
These prices are quoted from the ABT 2003 Tour Guide from Holt Marine located in Queensland.
I'll try and post the pic from the pdf file.
Spot on Davo, but please remember that you have to add freight to these prices guys. These are as is in the East.
They are a great boat and Bainy has done a good job on them.
hey richo
with the 400 hornets, im assuming that they are tiller steer, but what other options come with them for $9200???
cheers
Ev
I think that's hull and engine Evan. Going on what Madphil paid.
cheers bear
no trailer with that???
im looking at those polycraft boats 4.1 v nose punt at the moment. they seem to be very reasonably priced. for the 4.1 side console 40hp yammy electric trim and tilt start boat trailer rego etc you are looking at about $12900.
funnily enought though it is the same price for the 455 model with the same engine. the 410 also has nice live well provisions at the stern plus storage under the casting deck where as the 455 only has storage up front under the casting deck. you can also get the 410 wihtout the console and it becomes considerably cheaper around $8000 with a 30hp yammy (not electric start trim etc though) so im wondering whether its worth getting the console (costs alot more) or even going to the bigger boat???
any thoughts???
thanks
Sorry mate, that is trailer and rego etc as well. On the road.
With all the talk about advertising I don't want to say too much, but shop around. Ira and I will be doing a special spread on the price of dinghies and what you get for the July issue of DohDohDoh.
You should be able to get a good look at some then.
Drop me a PM if there is anything else want want to know.
Thanks,
cheers again bear
there is a big jump in price on dinghies when you add the side console on them in terms of the console itself and the motor so im just wondering if they are worth the extra money??? you have fished with both what are your thoughts
just out of curiousity anyone know the prices of a 40hp electric start trim and tilt engine??
anyway this is the hull im thinking of getting
The big cost difference Evan, is with the extras that need to be added is you use a console. To be honest, I LOVE IT. Couldn't be easier and with my dicky sholders, it makes it a lot easier and less tiring.
To give you an idea, it's about $500 more for an electric start engine vs pull cord.
Remember that you need to add electric motor, live well and other odds and sods after that. Budget carefully.

I too was looking at these boats It just looks too easy got these quotes
*4.55 Side console inc 40hp Yamaha outboard, lic trailer, lic boat,
Underfloor tank
Ready for water $13877.00 inc GST and Safety package.
*4.1 Side console inc 30hp Yamaha outboard, lic trailer, lic boat
Ready for water $12100.00 inc GST and safety package
(no underfloor tank)
Im also tempted to get a second hand ali of around the same size.
up to $6000
Id like somthing that can get me into some inshore reef action.
but would still like full floors tanks etc for comfy breaming.
Any suggestions?
Corey
corey where abouts did you get that quote??? the place i got mine said it was cheaper to get the 40hp rather than the 30hp - go figure???
why didnt you go for the underground tank in the 410???
cheers

That would be the same Estuary Marine that offered to be the major sponsor of the Bream tournaments last year, took all the free publicity, sold a couple of boats and then pulled out a week before the first comp....
We had to pick up the tab at the last minute (not that we are complaining as the exposure was great), and a lot of the guys who fish the comps were really pissed off with EM. They have lost a stack of business from the comps that has now gone to Millards, and we encourage anyone involved in the WA comps or are regular members here to do the same. This is why we push Millards, as they didn't bat an eyelid when asked to sponsor the comps.
Warren.

I've got to agree with Warren there.
If you want a Quintrex boat and you're in WA go down to Millard Marine. They stepped into the breach as boating sponsor and they have proved themselves to be top operators. There are a number of people, including myself, floating around the site who have tried them out and found the product, service and deals to be great.
This is in comparison to the former boat sponsors who showed a complete lack of substance and left us basically in the poop.

Sorry bout that I had no idea.
A mate of mine is there OB mechanic and the name came up as a supplier from the polycraft web site.
In a bid to support this site and store I would always support sponsers and supporters of the scene.
when my loan is approved I will certanly contact Mallard Marine
Corey
I was the same Warren,
Ready to sign up for a 400 Wide Body b4 the rot set in. Not a popular move.

No need to apologise, but we just like everyone to know who to support, and who doesn't deserve the business. It's not your mates fault he works for Estuary Marine, we just won't be frequenting the place ourselves.
If anyone needs a hand getting finance organised, drop me a PM. I'm a finance manager during the day, and have organised loans for a couple of the boys.

I am a finance managers nightmare!!!!!
Im going to borrow against my house.
new kitchen new roof new garage NEW BOAT!!!!
thanks corey- its good to know the margin that they can 'knock off' for mates- gives me more bargaining power - haha
its hard not to support them when they are the basically the only metro dealer of the polycraft hulls (and have the cheapest prices)- our only other option is to buy either over east or from a regional dealer which would hardly be cost effective- something to look into though
maybe millards should look at gettting them in???

I was/am in the same position as you. Perhaps slightly advanced - I have bought a boat; it came with all accessories - refurbished kitchen/dining room and the potential of adding an updated bathroom has now been added.
Hate to think of what the cost of upgrading will be in a few years!
But it was worth the price - got to have a life and keep the home front happy.

Me too lads. My boat cost a garage and a kitchen. And a new rod/reel combo to top it off resulted in a dishwasher.

I second all the above regarding Millard Marine.
All you Breamers who follow these forums should give them the opportunity to at least quote on a potential purchase.
I won the $2,000 competition "door prize" voucher at Millard this year for simply entering and fishing in the comps. WHAT A BONUS.
With guys like Millard - the comps would still be fantastic - but they would not purvey the professionalism that they currently have.
