hi all,
i headed to harvey dam on sunday hoping to get in touch with a few trout. what followed was the best trout session i've had in wa ... ever!!
the fisrt fish i landed for the day was a ne pb brown!! woo hoo
52cm and 2.24kg on the digi scales.
i'm sure i looked a site trying to get the net out while playing this guy .... man they go hard in open water .... for a trout anyway.
in typical brown fashon he was in near some fairly nasty cover and i thought i was in a spot of bother on 4lb leader, but it all ended well, & he swam off to fight another day.

i covered a heap of the dam in a 7 hour session, infact i flatttened the kotta batteries and had to walk the boat the last 300m or there abouts back to the ramp.
got in touch with 4 of these guys as well...

Nice fish Brad. Glad they came on for you. I went down about a week a go and couldn't buy a hit except from the reddies

shame to hear that stu.... it took me a hour or so to find them & figure out what they were in the mood for, but once they started to come they did so at fairly regular intervals.
how did the rst course go?

Nice work Brad.
Had a nice session myself on Saturday (except the rain!) - managed 3 browns over 50cm (my mate kept one around 55cm, no idea on the weight) and at least a dozen yearlings, at one stage we couldn't stop catching them. Amazingly though, I have only caught one reddie this season so far in about 8 or so trips.

I love those brownies.
Were these on fly or lures?
I like chasing trout in creeks better than lakes/dams, so prefer to chase them with a fly. In a lake I would guess lures are more efficient, unless you can see the fish.
How far is that from Perth, my wife has been encouraging a visit to that side of the country, but so far I have resisted.

I've found the best success trolling hb's during the morning and fly fishing in the evening. Not a lot of rises in the morning compared to the arvo in my experience.

Living on North Coast of NSW Trout dams are a bit of struggle to find around here. We do have some beautiful streams within a couple of hours that are great fun. The fish can be a bit small at times, but they still wolf down a reasonably presented dry fly and don't hesitate on small nymphs.
This evening I popped down to the little creek behind my place and cast one of those kokoda bats about and picked up a couple of small bass. Time to take the fly rod down with some small Dahlbergs. Thats always fun. Not the gentle sips of good trout, more the aggresive bash of the small rainbows multiplied by about 10.
