I was in Big-W today buying jig heads and i saw a packet of pre rigged soft plastics and i noticed that the jig heads had little rubber bibs:confused:  .

What do you guys think of this???

Cheers

Years ago there were SP's around called Scroungers that had that set up. They designed like that to stir up plenty of bottom & have a bit more action. They were very effective on flatties & we used to get a few bream too but back then flatties were the target. Some guys used to target jewfish with the large versions of them that weighed about 3 ounces. They were pretty effective on the Jews as well. Showing my age now  :p That was back in about 1980 or so :p

The 3 Ounce scroungers are what I used to chase jewies in the Coorong with many many years ago (late 80's from memory)
They were incredibly effective.
I was looking through my tacklebox the other weekend and found quite a few of them

It's gonna be interesting testing different tail types with these jig heads!

This is a jig made by waterland (japanese again)
it sinks like a normal jig
but the bib makes it wobble and roll just like a HB, except it swims towards the surface

The ones you saw in BigW are Scroungers, I use them heaps. I have them from 1/8 oz up to 1oz. I think they are made by Sabre (the same mob that do Mr Twisters), I can find out if anyone is interested.

They are definitely Scroungers in Big-W, and they've been around for a long, long time (almost as long as Ravin :D ).

There used to be another company that did them in Aus as well, but I can't remember the name, also, who remembers the original Flopy's, they were a hard bodied shaped soft lure.... I'm a bit lucky in that my old man has 3 different colours of each of the 3 original Flopy sizes still in their boxes unused, he won't even let me touch the open ones (4).

I think the last time they got a run was on the upper Snowy River in about 1982, and I caught Trout on them.

Dave,

I've owned and used Flopy lures. The early ones were made of hard rubber, the later one were plastic. They had an adjustable bib too.
They were made by a French company called Rublex I think.

Floppies were a top lure & if I remember right the bib was adjustable? I think it was them we used to put the bib down vertical & use them as surface lures when chasing bass. May be wrong the old brain cells aren't so good these days. :D Better go polish me walking stick, get me teeth out of the glass & rinse the hair piece :D then soak me catgut & cuttyhunk fishing lines :D :D

Rubber Flopeys in the small size were the number 1 Bream lure back in the 70's. As Ravin says they had 2 bib positions, one as a diving lure the other as a surface or sub-surface lure.

Their only draw back was after a few bream the rubber plug used to leak or pop right out on big bream. They were also prone to punctures from the Bream's teeth.

Any one manufacture lures following this tradition?? Sounds like a great lure, if it was that good surely it would still be effective now and im suprised it hasn't been reinvented??

Rio's (of Rio's Prawn fame) now makes a bibbed plastic that are said to be dynamite on Bream. When I find a picture I will post it.....

I found the advert:

Tiny Terra 2g, 45mm. Live Contact Series. "Designed with a slow natural sink rate.
The Tiny Terra is coated with a Hi Tech scented durable polymer rubber which gives the lure a life like feel and also aids in the prevention of chrome delamination."

Also make a rubber lipped popper.

No web site I'm afraid....100% Oz made.
