G'day,

I'm buying a new outfit for Bream. I'm using soft plastics and hard bodied lures. I fish sometimes fish around structure and some times open waters. I just wanted to know what 'lb' should I look at? All help would be greatly appreciated!

4lb Crystal Fireline

4, 6 or 8lb Flurocarbon Leader

That is what you meant by 'what pound?' wasn't it??

Yep thats right!

What about 2lb Platypus Super-Braid or is that just pushing it a lil?

2lb Platty would be fine, it breaks at about 3.5kg based on tests i did at work. It'd be fine. Try Fins, it's been my favourite line for a long time. Unless you wanted to go really fancy then you could go Daiwa Sensor or Bass Hard.

Thanks mate!:)

I have got the main line covered now, I just need to see what 'lb' leader I need now.

There are heaps of different brands out the there, all for different situations.

I personally use 8lb berkley vanish but also i am starting to use 6lb line systems

Since I use 4lb braid and a 6lb leader for my Trout/Redfin outfits, i'm going to use 2lb braid and a 6lb leader. I just wanted to know what is the difference with flurocarbon and mono lines? Is fluro heaver than mono or is it harder to see when its in the water than mono???

fluro sinks, mono floats and fluro has similar refractive quality to water, this means it is near invisible in water

try 4lb for areas with little structure to bust you off and 6lb for snags

I also use the 6lb berkley vanish. It is as good as the expensive leader that I bought the last time. I got 250 yards of vanish for a little more than 25yards of the expensive stuff. Never bother fishing without the leader because you wont catch the fish.

I use 2lb fireline and then 6lb flurocarbon leader, you really cannot go wrong
I think 4lb may be abit to heavy unless you are fishing some really snaggy terrain

try some 4-6lb platypus platinum.
works a treat.

Pretty sure the lightest poundage of FINS is 4 lb. Apparently they are now doing a 6 lb version as well. Previously it was 4, then 10. 4 is super thin, 10 quite thick, and a world of difference in casting, abrasion resistance and sink rate.

I'm currently using 8 lb Nitlon PE and am quite happy with it. On the really light gear still running 12 lb mono. For bream, i'd go with the fellas' recommendations of 4,6,8 and maybe 10 lb fluoro.

i use 4lb pick fireline tied to 5lb siglon sinking leader, perfect for finese fishing along rockwalls. bit dangerous though.

I'm with you terbo I use 6lb platapus platnium a lot cheaper than fluro and does the same job actually a bit finner line and find it makes no difference from fluro

There is a difference between this vanish in the 250 yard spool (for spooling up with) and the smaller fluro "leader" spools

Try TD sensor braid for main line i use 6lb and have no drama's at all, i found the 4lb good from the boat but if your land based forget it, it's wind knot city... 6lb sunline v-hard fluro carbon for breamski's and 12lb for mulloway, but i still get big bream on 12lb flurocarbon and heaps go figure:confused: Cheers

Ive been using 8lb Nitlon leader, do you guys think it would be more visible underwater than 6lb? Cos i still havent caught a single bream since i started using HBs! The blowies dont seem to mind the leader though...

I run 4lb and 6lb on the spare spool fireline, and then predominantly use 6lb nitlon f/c leader / sometimes beef up to 10lb if the mullies are about

I use 4lb Fins braid with a 4lb Vanish leader:cool:

Or you can buy some qaulity braid such as various or castaway and 10lb strength. Its thinner than 4lb fireline.
And its feels great, high abrasion resistence, less wind knots ect
