last one, dave with some breamstick fun
Had an insane trip- cracking some new species and new spots.
Took the boat 14km out, no real hassles apart from a dodgy starter solenoid  Most boats laughed at us for being so far out, we laughed at them when their jaws dropped when we commented that we released up to 80 fish a day.:D
Unreal weather, lots of beer drunk, caught up with korg and his wicked coral trout. And we broke a rod each :D
Check the press for some more pics soon.

pete, we took it to helby banks and back, no dramas but its a long way out. Ended up taking it through a gap in the reef that had a set of waves come through while we were halfway into it, so had to get over them, no dramas. Overtook most boats on the way out behind the reef, was an unreal boat out squidding and it got lots of funny looks and heaps of people scoured over it thinking it definitely wasnt ally. We also got into some skinny tidal areas too. Its surprisingly fuel efficient. We were doing long trips each day and average consumption i reckon would have been 5-10L per trip. The longer trips and I mean some were nearly an hour of flat out travel one way was about 40L in a day.
Forgot to mention the day we went to helby banks we had a humpback and its calf jumping clear out of the water, though we never got the camera out. Wicked spot

Looking forward to reading the articles...some good adventures had on that trip!
What Brad fails to mention is how rediculously hard it is to land fish in some of the areas we were fishing.
We were fishing 20lb and sometimes 30lb with drag pressures in excess of 5kg and fish were pulling string like it was absolutely nothing. It doesn't sound like much drag pressure, but you go grab an up to 10kg plastics rod, run 5kg+ through it and believe me you will be testing your gear! We lost over $120 worth of gear in about 3 and a bit hours in one session.
It was a shame we didn't find many hard body willing spanglies though. We did hook up to some unstoppables on plastics and landed some other size spanglies, but certainly not the numbers we were hoping for. Thankfully the other styles of fishing were a heap of fun anyway!!!
Massive thanks to Yatesy and his family for letting me come up with them. Had a great time!!!

30lb and 5kg drag is pretty much the minimum we run up there Dave, on 17lb sticks though. I lost 13 Skin Deeps, Spads 17 and Skivvs 6 - 36 between us in 5 or six days.
As you said though, when you play in tough country - you can and do get roasted quite often, we expect nothing less, and thats half the fun. Suprised you didnt get more Spangles on hards, when we were there a few weeks back they were hit and miss but we still managed oodles. But thats all we chase, and when we chase them we pick up goldens.
How many days did you spend out in the Gulf and how many out Tantabiddi way?
Any GTs?
cheers

One proper day in gulf and one mess around arvo, the rest out of tantabiddi.
We only really specifically chased Spanglies a handful of times, the swells and wind were so light we chose to spend more time outside the reef. We knew how hit and miss it is, and I guess got a bit restless waiting for a patch when we knew we could get good fish outside the reef.
We expected to loose a lot of gear and had a lot of fun doing it. I could have run 30lb through my S10 but didnt. I'd have probably stopped more fish but was more interested in being silly with the 20lb. I was probably starting with around 5kg drag most days and adding more or palming the spool if I couldnt stop the fish. Brad used 30lb a bit but as you know they are still unstoppable at times even with well over 5kg drag settings.
We actually went down to 6lb with every intention of loosing gear that we dont like/use back home...that was fun with some nice fish landed in brutal territory.
We didnt get any big GT's, just juvenile fish. Still good fun on light gear but no big fish around the back of the reef for us. I did hook up to a Cobia that spat the popper after a short run though. Spewin he didnt stay connected. We saw some very large Coral Trout and hooked some that were just rediculous in terms of fight. Fishing where we were didn't really give us any chance of stopping them on 20 and 30lb though.
Looks like I'll be spending the next 3 months up north so hopefully there'll be plenty more big fish coming my way!!!

Yeah richo the spanglies were very hit and miss, water was cold even the spaniards werent taking lures, they had to be baited up. Most spanglies we heard of were in deeper water and on coral.
The day in the gulf was unbelievable, i would love to go into it, but it totally would spoil a good article.
Lets just say it went from not bad to a pretty good to darn unreal in the space of a few hours.
Pretty much the only area we didnt get to hit was the area from bundegi round to the lighthouse. Shame there isnt a ramp in lighthouse bay.

I am in trouble then..............

As far as I know, yep
We were in residence in Exmouth at the same time as the boys. And I am not bragging or downing there fishing as we fish a lot differently than they do but we did well out from Bundegi. A lot of burley and a few secret spots produce some fair fish. But it just shows you how different approaches change results. And I suppose 20 odd years fishing the Pilbara and Gascoyne coast helps.
Brad,
Bugger then
I have just sent a article into a mag using pics I have posted on our site. But it has me stuffed why it would matter???????
Korg
Nor Westers are good fun and Ok on the Chew but North of the 26 Parrel is all about fast fish..........
Korg,
The issue mainly is that by posting them on forums a lot of those who would normally read the mag have already seen the pics. Tends to ruin the article a bit.
HTH.
Sean
.Ah well looks like my writing skills will never be published because of my like to post pics>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
You get that..............................................
Korg
Don't have to stop posting Krog, just keep the good ones in the piggy bank.
And yes I am a fat bat....
A Soft plastic Giant of pretty big proportions.
Nah whats the point, If you get a good pic post it, share it and if mags are that sensitive they wont get all the storys and pics only some.
But thats me, different :D

I actually have one done and will get another done soon.
We took 172 pics over the two weeks and there are some crackers but all cant be published. Therefore shots of fish that wont go to print were posted up. I have shots of some fish that wont go to print either but then one out of the group will so I dont put them up either. Imagine the ones i posted up, take away a couple of dozen that werent worthwhile posting and think about the rest. Glad I took the laptop to download them off the camera each day.
Brad,
I dont know about you but in the Truck we getting so bloody wet in the first week not many pics were taken. 80% of mine were taken in the last 4 days???
Korg
Brad,
Sorry it is all to scientific for me............... Post up the good ones scrap the Crap.
Ps even Cave Men take Lap Tops:D

I spent a week up there recently, usual fish big spanglies, goldens and GTs.. but i havny posted a single pic of the trip yet. Will do in 2 months though, if you are serious about writing - you`ll soon find you post less and less of your good pics. Just the way it is, just like Brad I have some crackers but they`ll be saved for the right occassion and then posted after that.
IMO a crackin fish should be seen the first time in an article, then on the web down the track.
cheers
Don't get me wrong but how many Exmouth articles is Too many??? It is not the only option North of the 26 Parallel...... Just a very easy one, suitable for old folk like me, perhaps a bit of trailblazing from the Young guns would be the go????
Anyway on the older theme, in the old days it would not be unusual to see all the slides of a Darryl Hitch ens or a Rob Vaughn trip at a West Coast meeting and then it would be on the cover of Modern Fishing a month or so later, no big deal. And I am suppose I am not serious about writing and if magazines don't want to publish my stories well I wont lose to much sleep.
Ps In one of last months mags there was a article on Southern Stones and I have seen all of those pics on our site so it can not be too big a problem.
